Hi
I need to do this. I have a 1969 with the Marelli distributor (for the T engine, and E cams - distributor seems to still have T curve) and have tracked down a distributor for the 72/3 T (same as the 74-77). The part number of the one I have found is 0.231.184.001. Can I drop this straight in? Does it fit without modification? Do I need to recurve it? Does it have vacuum advance or retard (I have no vacuum connection at the moment)? Thanks for help! Cam, are sure you don't have to mill down the shaft to fit into an early engine's hole (That didn't sound very "mechanical" did it)?

No- I'm not sure!!!!! But I need to find out. I dug up an old post where John Walker advised you that this was what you needed to do.
Did you ever find a Bosch distributor for your car? |

I think I've found one in the US, but I haven't emailed the gentleman for a while (since the WTC). I'm getting ready for my big move to Townsville at the moment, so a lot of car things are on hold. It seems they go for about $160 USD without being rebuilt. Kind of expensive on our dollars eh?
Apparently you are well informed on the distributor from a later car being suitable for the older engines, but they require machining to the shaft to reduce the lower portion's diameter. Good luck, let me know how you go. ------------------ John Forcier 69 911T |

I definitely will, cause I have access to two unrebuilt ones as I set out above for NZ$225 each, which is about A$180, or US$90 or so.
So it all really depends on the machining and recurving... it might be worth your while as well. Cam |

All right John - I will chase up cost etc of recurving tomorrow if I get a chance.
Then I will get one, see if it works and can then give you the green light... free R&D ![]() Cam |

after machining, just install it and set the total advance to 35°(using an adjustable advance timing light and raising the RPM until the timing stops advancing). they seem to work fine without recurving. try it first. the vacuum retard unit is not used. it's arm just holds the breaker plate steady.
