I'm dealing with the same exact thing today!
Dumb question but what comes thru the larger round hole?

Try an aerosol can lid. Worked for mine.

Hi
the large round hole was originally the air intake for the gas powered heater. If you look at cars that were equipped with the gas heater, the shift coupler cover, between the seats, had open grill with a screen. The heater would suck the air from the tunnel and pedal area. Fast forward to factory a/c. If you look at the bottom of the evaporator box, it has an angled face that interfaces with this hole. So between the passenger side floorboard entry point, and the pedal assy area, the a/c evaporator sucks in interior air to cool it The rubber cap has not been available for a while, but Porsche has been getting more classic model cars' pieces remanufactured/ replicated. So check with your dealer on this. Leave it open? uh, yes, but make sure the seal on the hinged cover is working well. Any gas fumes from the tank breather system/ bad fuel level sender gasket is not the type of Chanel # 91 octane anyone should enjoy We have been using a piece of black abs plastic sheet, cut to fit and silicone sealed in place

The lid from a tennis ball can fits perfectly. You even have your choice of colors.

And the 1in drain on the bottom - just close it up with a rubber plug?
