I'm thinking of heading out from the west LA area tomorrow morning around 4 or 5. Would take the fast route of 5 > 46 > 101

Thinking Sat morning...hammering it from the East Bay. Wife doesn't want to go, so old VH and Deo at 11 all the way down 101 to Salinas, 68 to the track. I have no tickets, never been there before, so I'm gonna get gouged at the gate. My 911 won't like the Purple parking...

The plan is in the works to attend Sat or Sun .....
Looks like a can't miss event for us locals. No corral parking though for the Carrera.

I ended up getting an invite to the "Road to Rennsport" tour and it was pretty epic! Momo footed the bill and we even got some laps of big Willow and a free lunch in addition to some amazing roads to tear up.
There is nothing like aerobic driving! |

How about that 919 and RS running laps at lunch!? My lord...Lordy lord. I have film and pictures. Three 917s running hard too, earlier!!! I met a guy who owned a 934.5 out of Alamo. Very nice to show me around such a rare car.

Here was my trick for keeping a 7-year-old calm for the long, hot, 5-hour drive to Rennsport.
1) Industrial-strength kid-size earmuffs that I put a pair of cheap headphones inside of. 2) All the Harry Potter books in audio form on his iPad. Worked like a charm. ![]() He also got to hang out with the R Gruppe.

The RSR's and 935's in the Carrera trophy were awesome. Corral was great ... everywhere. Even the hotel parking garage was full of air cooled 911's and 356's. It seems the targa's and turbo's were underrepresented though. |

I accomplished one of my tasks Saturday at Rennsport.
![]() Old "10 MPH" helmet had gone out of spec... ![]() (Vic Elford = +5 MPH. Brian Redman = +5 MPH.) Time for a current spec upgrade! ![]() (Derek Bell must be +10 MPH just by himself!) ![]() Vern Schuppan, Hans Stuck, Jackie Oliver, Chip Robinson, Norbert Singer, James Weaver, and Bob Garretson. I think I have a major increase in speed here! --- Funny moment... Going down the line I am only having the drivers that I enjoyed back when I was racing sign the helmet. For the others I am having them sign the flag. Vern Schuppan finishes signing the helmet and next to him is Alwin Springer who reaches over to grab the helmet to sign it. I pull it out of his hands and ask him, "Alwin! What did you race?" He cracks up a bit and comes back with, "356s!?" I managed to miss Vic Elford and Brian Redman so hopefully I'll catch them at an event in the next few years.

Clip from the 356 guys, Ron Goodman gets a giant brodie, right before he collects 2 walls and shortens his Speedster.

Hi ficke, cool 68s, love the paint job. That car belongs in the Bay Area!!!! I parked my 911 in the purple dirt lot...left the lights on...yes pmax, I was very early, couldn't sleep. I was fired up.
I wish I walked around more on the corral side. I use a cane so the venue wore me out. |
