R-Gruppe gauge information wanted

Hi guys,

We are restoring a R-Gruppe look car back to stock. It's a Dutch/Belgian car.

The details one this car are really nice, R-gruppe stickers, badge and this gauge.
I'm pretty sure it's fake but I was hoping for some information about it. It is very well made, not just a cheap sticker. Maybe the official R Gruppe member #605 (If there is one) knows something about this gauge?

I've never seen this style with fuel dail inside the tacho. The casing is stamped 1974. The handwritten stuff on the back is in english so probably USA built.

My guess; a custom-faced gauge from North Hollywood Speedo or equiv. Member 605 might want it back for posterity.

There was another guy here a few years ago that use to do custom gauges. Did a lot of 914 gauge stuff. This looks like one of his. I'm sure one of the RGruppe guys would snap this up. I would post this on the Early S registry.

The 7000 red line is interesting. What engine had a 7000 rpm red line.

Seems like a sweet driver. I assume it makes economic sense to origify it.

RGruppe is a club whose members modify mostly early 911s in spirit with Porsche's sport purpose philosophy. As such, there isn't an official RGruppe car. Each one is unique to the owner's vision like the SWB 911 above. Member #605 might want the tach back for nostalgia; so might any other owner who doesn't mind being mistaken for #605 or an RGruppe member.

seems a shame, but I never knock what people do to their own cars. Beautiful car though.

The gauge place was called "new vintage usa". Not sure they are around any longer

7K redline is either an early 2.0 911 or a 2.0 on 911E.

And there never-ever was an R Gruppe member number anything like that high! I call it BS. Cris has always limited membership to about 300 and that has remained so through today. I suppose you can call this a bit of a fantasy car so it might as well have some fantasy RG stuff also? Just take it all in the spirit of having fun and.. whatever.

That is a ver cool car.
Marketed in the right circles and it might even pull quite a bit more money than stock/original

I'd think in Europe some would love to have a California hot rod to show off, and just as in America, some would of a premium.

In the wrong circles these cool additions would be blemishes

That is true, the membership is around 300 (currently there are around 310ish members), their numbers could be much higher than 605 if they are a newer member. Once a number is assigned to a new member it is not used again if they leave the club. Cris has also assigned many numbers out of order, so I have no doubt there is or was a member 605.

Heck mine is 299 and I'm pretty sure there are many, many numbers higher than mine.

OK. I told you. I guess you will just have to... guess. This isn't worthy of this much discussion.

My engine is a modified 1983 SC, running 964 cams and has ARP main and rod bolts, with titanium valve springs. It has a redline of 7,000 and is mated to my short R&P set on my 915 in a 1974 911 Coupe. She goes like crazy!

Just for your information guys, It's confirmed that this car is/was an official Dutch R-Gruppe Member car. The gauge was built by North Hollywood speedometers indeed. (it's up for sale now btw)

The official R- gruppe badge and stickers will stay in my private collection, I respect the club and don't want any other car driving around with their badge or stickers on a non member car.

I can make graphics to your specifications.

BTW, The RGRUPPE guys and very clannish. They even have a secret handshake and a message decoder ring, I hear.....but they don't talk about it.

There are many people who can make graphics... but this gauge is fully custom, not just a different background.

And the R-Gruppe is just a bunch of people who don't want to be in a regular car club. They keep their standards high, no problem with that.

How do you become a member? That seems next to impossible for me.

Built and drive an amazing car, have a nice personality and don't try too hard to fit in. If you're lucky they will notice you and invite you. That's the only way.

It's a private car club, mostly friends.

But why try to become a member? Just do your own thing and enjoy the hobby!
