Sweet! My wife and I watched your video last night where you mounted the ECM and I was ready for this one.
I'm taking notes and trying to get all of my fuel and wiring sorted before I spray the bay so I won't have to touch anything up.
Excellent work!

I would definitely do a few things differently with the body if I was starting this again now, but I am working with what I did several years ago.

yep.
you'd probably build a Safari nowadays as is the current fashion, haha.

Whereas… not a bad car for your vast outback though.

make it a RSR-Safari quick ?

Safari is not my thing. The basic car would be the same, my skill level and knowledge is much higher now compared to when I built this car.

It is a big moment. I finally get the engine off the stand. It is getting very close to going back in the car now. Woo hoo!

In this episode I get the last bits and pieces on Harry ready before I can install the engine.

Nearing the finish line! I can't imagine your excitement Jeff.

If you haven't figured it out yet, that shock which you were holding is a bilstein insert/cartridge for your front struts. There were a few different makers of front struts so hopefully your new inserts are compatible.

The ones I have look identical front and rear, but with different part numbers. I will talk to our hosts and confirm what to do with the rears? I assume the rears don't take inserts as well?

Correct, rears do not take inserts, they are a sealed unit. All rears will have the eye welded on just like your old shocks, regardless of koni, bilstein etc.

Jeff - not to revel in your frustration, but as soon as you showed you were going to mount that oil line I said to myself "I wonder how long he fights with it before he realizes he has to drop the exhaust". Because I learned that lesson the exact same way LOL. Great to see you are nearing the finish line.

Haha. I still wanted to see if I could do it the lazy way with the exhaust still fitted. Wasn't going to happen though

Uhg. After watching your video I realized that I made the same mistake. I guess my motor is coming off the hydraulic table and going back on the engine stand so I can remove my exhaust and install my oil line. Sux being a rookie. Oh well. I bet we never make that mistake again.
Good luck with the install. I’ve enjoyed the videos.

Mistakes I do only once are those are those I only have the opportunity to do once....

Took the angle grinder to my right thumb for like the forth time in a year last week, some time, soon, I will learn to refit the guard...

I have lot count of how many times I have been bitten by the grinder. At least now I always wear gloves.

Here's a good mistake I made a couple years ago..re-fitted engine and trans.. oil lines, filled with oil, drive shafts connected, sway bar in, the lot...

Turned the key and "whirrrrrr".... wtf?
Starter motor is spinning freely but engine not turning over...

Straight away I realised I forgot to fit the starter ring to the pressure plate assembly.. had the motor back out in about 2 hours.. and never made that mistake again!!

I saw this comment before I watched the video and felt immediately sick to my stomach. I had the same oil line on top of my tool box and my engine, with exhaust attached, bolted into my car. By the grace of the car gods, I was able to easily slip my oil line in place as I have headers and not heat exchangers. I don't know that I can accurately quantify my relief.

I'm so notorious for this, my dad brought me two pairs of cut-resistant work gloves when he last came for a visit. Since then, those gloves have saved me from the angle grinder, bench grinder, and band saw...

Is that better or worse than an upside down clutch disc? Because I've done that at least 3 or 4 times.

Project is really coming along, Jeff. Love following along here and on YT.

As an "expert" that has done both, a back to front clutch disk in a G50 (Its not possible with a 915) the clutch disk is far worse. The clutch disk extends far enough to contact the guide tube, friction weld itself to it and rip it out of the transmission making you have to weld up and machine the case....
