Tach Clean Up

The tach in my car is very under damped, and needs a rebuild. I found another one on the classifieds and bought it as is. It needs a bit of work. The glass is a little scratched up and it has a big stain at the top. First, how do I get the glass out, and second, do you have any ideas about how to remove the stain, and perhaps polish the glass?
Picture here:

Thanks!
-Tom

Take your time with a small flat screw driver or other pointy tool and carefully pry back the black bezel with the gauge resting on its face.

Once you go all the way around the bezel should slide off and the glass will come out.

Really, take your time. Don't damage the bezel.

Once you're ready to put it back on just bend the metal back the opposite direction.

Whatever marks you put on the inside shouldn't show when the gauge is back in the car.

The gauge face is most probably plastic, being the reason why it's scratched up. I'm currently looking around for a new glass face for my tachometer. Does anyone know of a place that sells vdo gauge parts?

Chris, yeah you are right - plastic. Probably not the easiest to restore.

Novus plastic polish will make them look new again....I've used it on scale model paint and it works like a charm.

ClickClickBoom,
Those look great. That's probably what I'll have done to my current tach. It needs a rebuild already, and the voltmeter would be very useful. But I think in the mean time, I'll clean up the tach I bought on the classifieds and put that one in.
