There are a couple tests where the acceleration times are a lot quicker than normal. Whether that's a result of hammering the cars like C&D used to do, or the occasional "better than average" production variance, it's hard to say.
Most 0-100 times for a 204 bhp ROW SC are around 15.7 to 15.9. JR |

1976 Carrera 3.0 W/5 speed? Is this real?
In my view, the recent 3.0 values are simply down to scarcity because they're obviously not about any substantial performance advantage.
I have owned ROW versions of all of these cars (and every gen Turbo). However when it comes to performance, I don't think my personal opinion (as informed as it is) should be given more weight than published test data. Magazines test cars for a living and know what their doing, how to mitigate personal bias, etc. Last edited by Fein 79; 01-19-2016 at 07:42 AM.. |

For starters...wrong interior, wheels, exhaust, and headlamp spray nozzles. Buyer beware. For this kind of dough you should be getting a pristine example. |

I had a feeling the bids were bogus considering the lack of originality and the fact it is a CIS car and not an MFI car. |

Both of these recent auctions seem to be less than legitimate so I'd suggest they are wishful thinking at this point.

These were magazine tests conducted in 1976 and 1977, primarily in Germany and Great Britain. I doubt they are on the internet in any digital format, so you're going to have to find them for yourself. The easiest way is to buy one of the various compilations of magazine articles from the period.
Most magazines don't offer a full disclosure of their methods, so at best you're limited to ambient conditions and maybe a weight, as tested. JR |

For those who have not seen it, there is a very good relatively recent review of the C3 in Total911 mag. It is called "the Forgotten Carrera" . It should clarify many of the areas under discussion here.

I have a 76 Carrera 3.0 available, it is missing it's engine/trans and I'm trying to establish a value. If anyone would chime in I'd appreciate it.

If you want a value, you're going to have to give a lot more info. Details, pictures of the condition inside and out, etc.

Yes. The C3 is in fact a very rare (original condition with matching numbers) example of a 1976-1977 Porsche 911 Euro Carrera. I have a matching number C3 with the 930/02 (very costly very rare). There's a C3 going to auction in Fort Lauderdale April 1-3, 2016 with an estimate $170,000 - $ 190,000. These cars are no joke.....they are the real deal or McCoy if you prefer.

Ok I'll play,
My first Porsche was a 79 SC and then I bought a Carrera 3.0 in the Uk at Eporsch that was a 8 page centre spread in Total 911 issue 73 four years ago then imported it to Oz. It took me 4 years to find a decent C3. The Total 911 Article was titled Rare Treat and went on to say " It may look like a common or garden 911 SC but the Carrera 3.0 that preceded the SC is a much rarer car - and even more fun to drive".I bought it sight unseen except for the fact my wife was there at the time, and Roly at Eporsch took her out in it. I was in Oz and she liked the Sienna Metallic paint colour so the deal was on. She paid the deposit for me then I flew out to finalise the deal, took her to the ring and the Porsche museum and then shipped her home! The two cars are very different, I sold the SC the C3 is a keeper. The SC was slow up to 4000rpm then it took off on cam. The C3 has more torque low down then screams from 3500rpm and pulls up to the redline. The C3 is lighter so handles better than the SC. I have tracked both at the ring the C3 is quicker and easier to drive on the limit. The value of the C3 has tripled over the past four years but it is underinsured as it is valued to the Oz market not the Uk market. This is a first world problem though! I have put 20000 miles on it and I am starting to worry about the mileage due to the increasing value. I still track it though! Almost all of the C3's in Oz are historic race cars which is why I had to buy in the UK. At Rennsport Sydney there were over 20 C3's there all were race cars except mine, though some of the racers had historic road plates! Excluding Rennsport Sydney I have only seen 3 other C3 road cars when I was looking to buy I have never seen another C3 going the other way while out driving. They are rare in the Uk and very rare in France Germany and Oz, the four countries I spend time in every year. I cannot speak for how common they are in the USA but seeing as they were never sold new there I cannot imagine there are too many there but then most of them were built left hand drive! I totally love my C3 and drive it every week in fact I take my wife to faraway restaraunts just so I get a decent drive in it. Sorry for the rant not just my 2 cents worth! Did I mention I love my C3? Cheers Bill

This car did not meet reserve but was bid up to $120k. It was then sold at the Barrett Jackson Northeast auction a couple weeks ago for $96,800. 1977 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.0 - 195845 I bet the owner wished they had no reserve at the earlier auction....
