Another Oil Overfill/Leak Question - 3.2

I have searched this board and cannot find an answer to my question-despite the fact that oil overfill is a common problem.
I have a 85 Carrera with no history of oil leak problems. Last week I had the oil changed by the dealer, this was the only thing done. I put in Mobil 1 15w-50. That is what I have used for many years. A few days later I noticed a large pool of oil forming under the engine on the left (drivers) side. Using Ockham's Law I strongly suspect an oil overfill. In my search I have found numerous references regarding similar problems on CIS cars and in those situations the oil seeps into the airfilter and intake system. After checking I don't have any such problem and I am not getting any engine smoke. However, I have noticed a few earlier postings regarding 3.2 cars that mention an oil leak similar to mine on the left side of the engine that occurs from an overfill. Is there something mechanically different between the CIS engines and the Carrera that spills excess oil in a different spot? I looked at my Bentley manual and that was no help. The easy way for me to check for an overfill is to get the engine hot and check the dipstick. But that won't work for me because our temperature is in the low 20's and I could never get 15w-50 oil hot enough for an accurate reading. Any ideas or enlightenment about the mechanics of the 3.2 engine?

crawl underneath with a flashlight and look to see if your oil return tubes have sprung a leak.
my 85' carrera did the same thing, never leaked, but as soon as it got cold there was an oil slick from a leaky return tube.
the seals may have shrunk and are letting oil pass by
