Targa to coupe conversion, am I crazy??
I've got a wonderful 964 C2 Targa, in my favorite color scheme (silver over red). Really love the car, but I've been unreasonably tempted to sell and get a C2 sunroof coupe.
My issue with that.. the targa has 150K miles, so value wise I'd put it at $35K. But, it's incredibly well sorted and would be hard to part with, or find a coupe in interesting colors that is equally as nice. I've been looking for over a year and just haven't found anything close. I figure it's going to cost 50k+ if I can ever find one. so...... convert it to a coupe? I know it's been done, but don't know the bodywork details for it to be done right. Seems doable, but at what cost?

I wouldn't. You'll spend more money and de-value what you have. If you truly want a coupe, then sell the targa and buy a coupe.

Let me send you my bank wire details. Send me $5,000. Then sell your targa and buy a coupe. It will cost you about the same as what you propose.
Just go buy a coupe if you want one.

I think you can do it an easier way then what Matt suggested.
You don't have to mess with a wire transfer and all that, just get the cash from the bank and set it on fire. Then go out and buy a coupe, you will be money ahead no need for a middle man do the work yourself. |

You will love a real coupe. Don't mess with that old Targa.

Targas are a special breed, please do not remove one from the gene pool.

Either you get it or you don't.
If you don't, sell it and get a coupe. Simple as that. -C

I've done some really stupid things in my life, and this would rank right up there.

Been there and don't recommend it unless your car has an underlying value issue.
993 cab to coupe. It was/is my hot rod. About 9 months of spare time work before the glass was back in, headliner done etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

What's wrong with Targa? That rear window is gorgeous. You have versatility.
And there's no way you drive good enough to notice the difference between a coupe and Targa. Don't let the Porsche nerds dictate your taste. |

It's a very civilized convertible. I've said it before, I love a well set up 911, and my wife loves driving in a Targa, so for me it works.
I've had convertibles since I was a teenager. Retro SC, it is your money, your time, and your car. There are a few good conversion threads here, if you do a search, so you would not be the first. I myself sold a nice euro coupe a few years back, and bought a Targa. But then, with the time money and energy I used to put into cars, I was able to build my dream shop and go a long way toward restoring a Colonial farmhouse. What you propose would be a labor of love, and something that I would find daunting. But you must follow your bliss, and find out where that takes you. |

Keep the targa and buy a coupe! I have a couple of each and I love both styles for different reasons. On a beautiful day it's hard to beat a targa.

Thanks Jim, good to see it can be done. I researched some other threads, created a mental parts list, and think I'm stepping back from the cliff. Like others have said too, it would really hurt the value of the car.
