M and K 1 in 1 out -- benefits?

Hi Gang

I am installing a SW Chip and M and K premuffler on an 85 3.2.

Anyone have experience and pros or cons to the M and M 1 in 1 out?
Deciding whether or not to do the lighter muffler or keep the stock one in place.

Thanks

I have a 1978 SC. Brian is well regarded on this site, and he has always been forthcoming with my queries. From my understanding weight will be reduced, throatier sound. 1 in 1 out should not have resonance issues. Midrange torque curve may or not be affected but that is a question for Brian and he will be forthcoming. Whats your goal? Exhaust mods on a 3.2 do not generally produce performance gains without internal modifications.

I didn't notice any real performance gain with mine, but it sounds really good with no resonance and is considerably lighter than the factory muffler.

Had a Bursch on my car so can't compare to stock, very happy with the M&K setup. Running both the 1 in/out and the pre muffler. No drone at all on the highway, it's the right level of loud too. weight savings is always a plus aswell, especially on the rear end.

Downside is it's not cheap, but if you browse the classifieds resale is high and always in demand.

I have the exact setup you are contmplating on my '86.

Recent dyno run on my car revealed 241 crank HP which is about as good as it gets with a chip/sport muffler.

Just participated in a Drivers Skill class and received many compliments on the exhaust song. Like the best in the whole group of cars.

Also great build quality for M&K stuff.

Great sound, lightweight, well made, more HP at WOT, softer mid range (move your sweet spot into higher rpm).

Jeff - -that may be all the endorsement I need
I will pull the trigger, plus when swapping the exhaust I can pull the AC bracket and maybe even those pesky bumperettes while I'm in there

Uh-oh -- I see a little slippery slope ahead!!

You may want to reconsider removing the bumperettes. I was mildly rear ended on the freeway, without a jot of damage thanks to them. Guess it depends; I drive my car almost all the time; some folks go the garage queen route so it doesn't matter as much.

Yeah Jeff - - that's something I would be wise to consider -- I drive my car almost daily in and around Toronto in the summer and the 14lbs of bumperette could save me a lot if hassle.

I am doing a steel backdate on my 1985 stock California car, and the original muffler interfers with the center panel and looks ugly:

Does anyone know if the M&K would sit higher and tuck up under better? Is it smaller diameter?

If you are getting a SW chip call and ask him. I did and found his advice very sound. He is a great guy.

I love mine. I can't speak for the 3.2 motor but for the 3.0 it feels like it opened up the top end and really sounds amazing.

Here is a quick sound clip of when I first installed the muffler and cat-bypass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ0L8N7P8zI

M&K vs stock muffler

I swapped out the stock muffler for the M&K 1/1. To me it is just the sound I was after.

Two of the best upgrades you can buy.

Pop in a cat bypass and you're happy all around.

kkkarpuk, will you post a picture of it installed? I am curious how it tucks up underneath.

Thanks kkkarpuk. From that angle it is hard to tell. When you get a chance, would you please take a picture from an angle similar to mine above? I would appreciate it.
