Factory Update to Rear Sway Bar Mounts
I just read Wayne's text about the upgraded sway bar mounts and the description of the new ones, but I need some help.
One of mine is cracked, and I am wondering if a dealer will replace these under some type of warranty or technical bulletin, since there was an identified defect and supercession of the part. Of course the car is 20 years old and just slightly out of warranty, but I am wondering if others have had any experiences in this area. I have hear stories of Porsche supporting early owners for some of the engineering lessons they learned over the years. Also, does anyone have any good pictures of the new versus old style, or the exact date the new ones went in? I am having trouble determining if mine are new or old. Thanks, Olivier |
It's a fairly common thing to break. To replace, they will need to grind the old one away, reweld the new bracket, and put some rust protection over it. When I had mine done last year was about $150 (parts and labor) so really no big deal. Just make sure you find a good mechanic.
Sorry, I did not take a picture of the old and new one. I can take a look at it tonight and see if I can give a visual description if you need. |
I had both sides of my car done, for about $300 total. A ripoff, yes, but I don't yet know how to weld. Anyway, I guess it's a very common thing to have break on the car for those who drive their cars pretty hard.
