Relocating Battery to Smugglers Box - Which Battery To choose?

Hey folks,

I'm going to embark on a little project of relocating my battery to the smuggler's box. Can you recommend a good lightweight battery to use?

Thanks!

mto

MTO,

I'm using a red top Optima in the smuggler's box. What means are you planning on holding the battery in place?

I'm going to fabricate a holder for the smuggler's box. But that's perfect...the red top Optima is a great choice. I've used that Odyssey 925 too...so I might check that out as well.

I like that better than an Optima set-up.

Whats the benifit of relocating the battery? I considered doing it too for weight distribution, but does it really make that much of a difference?

Odyssey 680 is even smaller and still works fine in terms of load capacity. Had it in my '87 for a while and then moved it over to the '79 race car. Keeps on truckin', despite its small size.

I got the PC625 on my car for 4 years now. Last Saturday it was below 32F at the race track in the morning and it started the car with no problem.

Here some spec.

I was wondering the same thing. Seems like the weight redistribution is in the wrong direction; I would think it better moved forward and down rather than backwards and up. There is a slight reduction in polar; very slight weight savings in copper wire....

I use the Deka ET20XL because it uses the Braille uber cool aluminum mount.

This is old pic of my old DEAD Braille. I moved the battery to passenger side and added a cutoff switch.

Second Pic is Deka next to Braille....they are the EXACT same size....and I mean EXACT.

The biggest gain is probably moving 40 pounds of weight off of the heavier left side of the car. It helps offset the weight of the driver.

Excellent...I think there's a local supplier of Deka in Denver too. That Braille mount is very cool...

Deka looks like the way. There's a distributor called Hensley battery in Denver that carries hundreds of them.

Just wondering if the same light battery placed in the right side front box is better or worse balance than smugglers box. (I run only 1 stock battery)
Is this a "cool" modification or one based on performance?
