3.2 intake manifold off, refresh questions.

Hey guys,

I'll try and make this short. Doing a refresh and cleaning on my 87 911 3.2 fuel injection and around the motor. I have a bunch of questions so feel free to answer in any order you feel!
Can someone who has some time list me the size for the vacuum hoses I listed below-

Both lines that go to the charcoal canister under the passenger rear wheel well.

Check valve to the back of the manifold.

The bigger vac line off the cruise control cylinder, need size and how long?

There is a vac line that adapts to the little larger line to the charcoal canister that apparently goes to the gas tank from the engine? Length of line to buy and size? 3.5 x7 mm?

For the intake manifold, is it recommended to use gasket sealer or just install the gaskets dry? I see contradicting answers, what do you guys do today? I was thing dry : )
Old gaskets came off clean so no surface prep needed, just a little cleaning. A ton of oil in the intake manifold and dirty throttle body plate.

I am changing out the fuel lines, since this is a PITA job, do you guys clean the fuel pressure regulator and fuel dampener? If you clean them what is chemical of choice?
Replace them since they are 30 y/o??

I did replace all seals and switch at the "triangle".

Oil cooler isn't leaking, took off 4 screws on top of the cooler and plastic panel wouldn't come off?? Did I need to loosen something else?

I have had no starting issues with the car...

CHT sensor, easy to replace? Wayne's book makes it sound like a breeze, I have 2 wire sensor and that grommet is seriously stuck on there?

A/C lines, good time to pull them and go barrier? One of the hoses, drivers side condenser split.... Can it be done later? So easy to do things with the top of the motor gone, prefer to put money elsewhere as we are getting cooler temps now.

My rear shocks are original and leaking. I have some Bilstein HD's ready to install as access is super nice right now. I'll do the fronts in the winter.

I have also replaced the oil feed cam lines and "updated" supports which were leaking.

Car only has 51K on the clock.

Thanks for any help!!

Hopefully we will get some people to chime in and answer some of your questions for you. While you tackle the shock job be sure to check out our tech article here: Porsche 911 (1965-1989) Technical Articles - Pelican Parts. There might be others that have some info that may help answer a few of your questions as well. Good luck!

Hi Vino,
I didn't use any sealant on the intake gaskets.
For most of the smaller vac lines I just bought vac-rated lines sold in a package at Pep-boys (aka auto-zone) I forget the mm diameters.
I never replaced or cleaned my fuel damper or FP regulator.
I did clean out the oil in the intake downstream of throttle body.
CHT job was easy - remove rear drivers wheel for access - use slotted socket (friend made mine).
Mine is an 87 as well, but you have very low miles! :-)
get a copy of the PET Catalog (download pdf) if you really want to get the line inner diameters
Porsche Classic Genuine Parts Catalog - Porsche Cars North America
Rear shocks were easy.
I had the fronts done by a shop due to the whole strut business going on there. Your call of course

Thank you for the help!
I won't mess with the fuel pressure regulator or dampener and just keep them.
Intake plenum will be installed on dry gaskets, makes since considering if ever need to be removed again no cooked on sealant to scrape off....
Cleaned all the oil on the lower runners, throttle plate and everything is clean and dry.

I ordered most of the vacuum hoses last night from our host.

I would suggest where hoses no longer exists to but down the correct hose size and length in correlation with the part number that is NLA, just a suggestion.

I think there is only 2 hoses from the selection that match the PET catalog sizes offered all within 1 mm.

Definitely will check out the tech articles for the rear shock replacement, thanks.

Will look into the tool for the CHT sensor or buy cheap socket and grind out enough for the wire to glide into.

My fuel injectors should be back from cleaning next week so will begin to clean and install the engine pad!
