Headers for 83 SC
What are options for headers for an 83 SC?
No heater but need enough muffler for track days. What is involved when the ad says "modification to oil lines may be required"? Are there headers for the later air cooled? |

I have a b&b exhaust with headers and heat. It might might not have been my first choice but the price was right. Its loud, sounds great and provides adequate heat.
The kit comes with its own oil line since one needs to be rerouted. The line supplied was a large braided steel line. I didnt like that at all so alternatively you can run back dated oil lines. Which is a much nicer solution. Lots of posts on back dating oil lines.

JMHO, but B&B's are too large for a stock 3.0 and that results in less low & mid-range torque (which is what that engine is best at producing). I've had best luck using 1.5" George's Headers and connecting them to a dual-in/dual-out Magnaflow or Flowmaster muffler. Such 3.0 engines can make power up to 259 BHP so that smaller size is no liability at all. ![]() You will need to replace two oil lines, but thats not a problem.

I dont want to hijack the thread, but it brings up a question...
Dick Elverude built my engine and got 279hp on his dyno. The original build did not have the B&B setup. There were some other headers used during tuning, I know they didn't have heat. Is it possible that the B&B setup is hampering performance?

You should do some searching on the forum. Headers run from $300-$3000 and there's a lot of options. If you are looking for a decent middle of the road option Georges European headers, now sold by GT Racing, are pretty good and compatible with a lot of muffler if you buy the extension tubes.
