Cool story on your car !!

Just curious, what size Tarret sway bar did you install? And you like what it did to stiffen up the front end?

Part # FSBA22 at Elephant Racing. Unknown size. I cannot tell the difference, but I am familiar with the physics of it. Plus, it looks good. Simple. Some of them are super racy complicated.

The clock gets back, the floor is fixed, the first oil change is 80 miles away and the P-car is done and done, at least by me.

WOW! Shout out to Buz at Seattle Speedometer I just got the tracking number for the return. That equals a two-day turn around. Thank you. That was literally the last thing I am doing to this car, fix the clock and retire the punch list

To summarize, I mailed the clock to them on Friday and I got it back on Thursday, six days turn around.

Ken,

I have been very happy with the work Buzz did for me. He repaired my 964’s clock to fix airbag/seatbelt lights and replaced my speedometer gear at same time. Since he is just a couple hours driving time from me I dropped my gauges off in the morning and picked them up the same day. They have worked flawlessly ever since.

Looking at both Elephant and Tarrett bars, they look the same. Much appreciated, I think the bar is a 22mm bar, and looks pretty easy to install.

I was getting my front suspension mods confused. I also added a strut brace, which is the top part of the square, not the anti-sway bar. I added RS end links based on recommendations from this forum.

RS end links, sway bar, braided lines, re-plating by Tru-6
The sway bar is basically plug and play, but I had to remove one strut to be able to slide the bar through the holes, which are pre-formed in the body and covered with a plate. Removing a strut will require a re-alignment.

The clock

...is working for the first time in decades. I met the car in 1999, it was not working then. The center air exchange duct has to come out to be able to access the clock. I took out the entire system, replacing the side boxes, but they do not have to be removed.

You need to be a bit of a contortionist to get the right hand thumb screw and bracket. Luckily my son was able to get in there and secure both sides. The clock comes out through the front, secures from the back.

I kept it analogue.

Front air control boxes

I struggled with these things for hours and then changed the top ducts to this orange duct material that has a lot of flexibility and is slightly larger than the connecting duct work. This is a tricky operation, lining up the bottom ducts at the same time as the top ones.

I was trying a tight fitting black on silver duct, for hours, changed to the orange duct, secured the inside with a clamp and the outside forces itself over the air box and is secure with or without a clamp.

When I am taking this stuff apart I always think the reassembly will be just as easy. Wrong! This is 2-man operation, one holds the top down and the other gets upside down in the foot well to screw the grates onto the base of the box. Contortion required.

See those round spring clips holding the pieces together? I used to have the tool to compress these little ****ers but I can't find it, nor can I find it at ACE, Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight, Sears, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's and it just dawned on me...NAPA mifght have it. Anyone know the name of the tool, spring clip pliers? You know what it's like putting them on with regular pliers. I lost several when they spin off the pliers into the wild blue yonder. I hear them ricochet off things as they fly away. It take a special pliers with a swivel round head with grooves in it.

Update on the clock. After 48 hours, has not lost a minute. 100 miles to go to first oil change.

Air exchanger

Stick a fork in me, I'm done. The radio is not hooked up but I use a bluetooth speaker and my iTunes library.

As I have been putting miles on the engine I find I am not as dangerous as I thought I was, just slightly dangerous. I have to avoid 45° right turns from a stop sign.

original ducts below, new ducts above, original center cap on spare (the style held on by set screws)

the trunk lights still work

new shield from AASE

Rebel Racing strut brace, mainly for looks, but it goes with the anti-sway bar

Three years on jack stands, totally worth the wait.

Today, I let the WRX go first from the light but I did not let him lose me up Clear Creek Canyon Road, after we cleared the State Trooper at his favorite place. I am, after all, still babying it a little. Have not had it over 100 mph yet. 90 for a few minutes the other day following a Dodge Hellcat on I-25 near Longmont.

51 year old car, 387,000 miles, the glove box light works.

There is only one thing on the entire car that does not work; the radio is not wired to power.

Ken! Out-fricking-standing! Great thread, really fun read, excellent photos, really going to be a great resource of info for others! Stumbled onto this thread 4 days ago and couldn't stop reading!
I love how it started out 3 years ago as a "bought it on an impulse", then became a "couple of DIY's", and evolved into an epic journey into every nook & cranny of 'ol Red. And now selling the other's and keeping her.
My compliments! Well done!
cheers, jt

Thanks, jt, it's been fun and now it's more fun, driving it. The engine and tranny have a non-transferrable 1-year 12,000 mile warranty. I want to make sure all the suspension work I did is fully functional and unbreakable under normal circumstances. I should keep the car for 12,000 miles, have some extended road trips, to do a proper break-in. It takes a year to do a proper check on the clock, imo, same for the brakes and fuel systems. The current economy does not favor exotic car sales. I got up on the wrong side of the bed. The planets are not aligned. There are many legitimate reasons not to sell.

I ilke the smaller MOMO stering wheels vs the stock one, which hits my legs under breaking and clutching. Wood for around town, leather for long distance.

It's even fun just looking at it in my garage.

UPDATE: Two days after this post I got a call at 9 am about a family emergency in Carlisle, PA. I was on the road by noon. 1600 miles in 24.5 hours, non-stop. Chick-fil-A sweet tea has a nice caffeine content, and their lemonade is the best I've had. Everything changed in a moment.

It will be listed...

I just contacted pcarmarket to ask for a specific reserve. They granted it. We are doing the preliminaries. As sson as I get back to Denver (been in PA for four months taking care of family emergency), we'll go live. If it makes reserve, my labor costs will be $1/hr. If it does not make reserve, I keep it and come back in a year when all this covid mess has settled down. It's been like living on a yoyo with this car, but still a fun project. All the suspension and brake work I did has been approved and certified by the Porsche experts at Storz.
