Poll on refinishing dash for 911

I'm tired of trying to decide how to refinish the dash on my 911, so I thought I'd let the folks on PP help me decide.

The color inside is cork (as was the dash) with black carpet (new domestic)

I really have three choices as I don't want to do a leather dash.

* Flock in black
* Cover in a suide material similar to Alcantara in a cork
* Cover in a suide material similar to Alcantara in a black
* Cover in German Vinyl Cork

Survey Says........

Thanks

Terry

Really? I had a bad experience. I should have done some test flocks first. I think it would of come out OK after some practice. I did not get the glue thick enough in some spots and the flock fibers did not stick. It would not be so bad if it was not front and center on the dash - its just always staring at me :-)

Is it a hot rod or a fairly stock driver?

Sorry but I have the interior completely apart and the dash out repairing the cracks in it.
The original dash was Cork Vinyl.
The rest of the interior panels are cork, the carpet I'm putting in is Black domestic (not RS so the door pockets will be black) and the seats are RS America Black seats (these are some of the nicest seats Porsche did in that time).
Point is I think black or cork will work for a color.
I have read a number of articles on DIY Flocking and I keep finding people saying "it came out good, but...." which leads me to believe that having it professionally done with an electrostatic process.
I ordered a yard of German Vinyl in Cork but don't know if I have the skills to do the recovering if I go that route so I may have to get some outside help.
I should also say that the car will be going on the market when I'm done in about a month. If the buyer is anything like I was it will be a weekend driver with occasional DE use. It's GP white, steel turbo flares, Turbo brakes, very upgraded suspension with sway bars and torsion bars, shocks, roll bar, 3.2 twin plug, ssi's, chipped and so on.
My wife and I see this from two different prospectives and that why I asked for the thought of the folks here.
Keep voting!!

Terry

I think the suede in tan would be different and cool!

I did not even know you could have flocking done professionally?

I got your flocking joke and was just formulating a reply to help support you a little.

But mostly with regard to this subsequent post that likely didn't get the joke either. It's really kind of wide open for flocking jokes...

As in "make like a shepard, and get the flock out of here"?

I have a cork interior with chocolate brown dash and upper door and rear widow trim panels. I think it is a great combo. There is no reason to go black when you can spice it up. The pic of the dash in the second shot is over exposed due to the flash, but the color of the knee pad under the radio is accurate.

Thanks terry,

I voted cork because I assumed the interior was cork because you were specific about the color. I would stay with cork unless you intend to change the door tops and quarter panel tops and maybe the parcel shelf if cork to match other wise the dash won't flow.

What color is the car?

GP White.

Suede material has a narrow lead.

I'm getting the impression from the reading I've done on flocking that because of the short working time of the glue (10-15 min) it's best to spray the glue on to get it on fast and an even coat, then apply the flock with one of the guns they have for them.

RSBob, you interior looks great!!

I'll post mine when it's done.

Terry

If you change color, matching door caps is the way to go. It really depends on what you want out of your car though. If it is mostly stockish, keep it stock.
