G-50/01
Hello, I like to know the difficulty in dissembling the G-50. I want to have the bell housing and input shaft shortened, to better fit my Super Beetle. Also who sells a good G-50 rebuild manual.
Thanks |

Requires some special pullers. Not worth the savings in labor imo. Only manual is the factory one

More effort than a 915. When you remove the syncro hub assemblies, keep the shift sleeve centered on the hub or all the springs and detents will pop out.

I'd look at sending it to California Motorsports which is in Lake Havasu City Arizona. (??!)
They seem to be very reasonable in their prices and they obviously are experts on the G50.

Why not a five speed conversion? Gene Berg not up to the task?

Just send it to Roger at California Motorsports...great people to work with!
They have had their hands on all of my car's transmissions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk28kC0E-2c This car runs our dog box conversion in a G50/01. He's since put it in the 7s but I always link this video because it has external video of the car.

162mph in the quarter mile with a bug. Nuts.
He isn't even using 5th gear? Back to 911 stuff.

Im sure both shops are good, but if you're " local " wouldn't you like to save in the drive / shipping of the trans..and simply spend 1/2 to drop it off or drop in the see the progress on your tranny? Just an thought.

BTW, CMS is my 2nd largest customer. I'm recommending Rancho for exactly the reason 0396 mentioned. If I can get the quality and attention to detail without shipping something that's always my first choice. I can give you 10 shops to ship it to...
