Cruise Control Bowden cable
My cruise control Bowden cable has broken on my '85 911.
PP says it is no longer available. I have found it elsewhere for $133. for the assembly- the inner and outer cables, part no. 911 617 124 04. Has anyone had any luck with having just the inner cable made? I don't know what the drive link side looks like as I haven't taken it off yet. The throttle side looks easy as I think I could find a way to have a small. lead nub crimped on. Thanks. ![]() ![]()

I had to make all new Bowden cables for my HVAC. I found that a lawn mower throttle cable from Ace hardware is the same thing, has an S-bend just like my HVAC cables do on both ends. I ran new housing just because, and made the housing out of bicycle cable housings. Worked out great. You could source a lawn mower cable, and cut to length maybe?

I extended mine with a $5 VW throttle cable clamp and a bit of stainless rod..... AFAIK you can't buy them new so your $133.00 one might not actually be available.
Maybe your local bike shop can make one for you?

Yea, you may have found someone that says they have it. But don't count on it. I looked for a long time and even found a few parts brokers to search for it. It simple is not out there in any source I could find. If you can find a real source for them, please let me know. I would like a new one with a proper unbroken square plastic clip at the connection. Dual zip ties are OK, but the OEM clip is better.
I ended up getting one from on the Pelican Parts needed and for sale forum. Some people think it is useless and just adds weight, so they remove it and the AC systems. Anyone that actually drives on road trips will know it is wonderful to have. The end of mine snapped off, and I never could find it. I have no idea where it went. And be sure to use at least two zip ties to hold it in place. If it comes loose, it cause the throttle to go to WOT.

I bought the $133 one but don't remember where. I was lead to believe it was possibly the last one in the U.S. They are 'rare as hen's teeth' -- as my dad used to say! Good luck!

The only thing that's "Bowden" about it is that the cable rides inside a sleeve. Both sleeves and cables (or both) can be bought at any bicycle shop or motorcycle shop for just a few bucks. The cables come with a ball or barrel already attached at the end.

All: Thanks for the input.
I found the broken end on top of then engine under the throttle lever with a flashlight and magnet. I got lucky because I had a several hundred miles on the car after the cable broke. I will be looking at a bicycle shop or post a WTB add in the classified section. Again, thanks.

I used a guitar string to fix the cruise on my 85 911.
the end with the little knob works on the control module end, then I used a very small cable U clamp at the throttle end.

I thought the bowden cable was NLA too but I ordered a replacement last year from my local Porsche dealer. Pelican tried to order one but couldn’t. Maybe the dealer got it through Porsche Classic?

I got one through Porsche classic too from the local dealer. It took about 2 weeks to come from Germany.

I tried recently to get on through the Porsche Classic web site. It was not available. What part number did you have?
