AC compressor nut stuck

When doing a valve adjust, had to move AC compressor out of the way. Unfortunately the nut that sets the AC belt tension got undone all the way, and because of the fan shroud, I can't get it back on the threads. Picture attached? I figure it came off so it should go back on right? But don't want to cross-thread and ruin the stud.

THANKS

PS: No, I don't want to ditch the AC - I hope to get it operational one day.

I think you can loosen the shroud strap and pull the fan and shroud forward enough to get the but on...
