The 73 run for the 911T US CIS (after Jan 73) was between: 9113101501- 9113103444
@ 1601 you are probably in Jan 73 The matching engine would be a type 911/91 (6133001-6136092)

Since there seems to be some knowledge here: I have a '71 E missing its motor & trans.
Chassis No. 9111200186 Dunno what the engine & trans numbers should be but I'd like to find out so I can then start hunting the proverbial needle in the haystack! Thanks, Marc |

The 911 VIN has the format 911 Y M C xxxx
Y=year 3=1973 M=model 1= T, 2=E, 3=S, 6=RS C=chassis 0=coupe, 1=Targa, and in some years 2= Karmann coupe so 9113101168 can only possibly be a 1973 911T coupe a 1973 911E would begin with 91132

A friend asked me to help identify his Porsche 911T Targa he said he was told it was a 1973.5. The engine number and VIN number according to this thread makes me think it is an early 73 and not a 73.5.
VIN 911 311 1056 Engine Serial Number 6133190 Thanks in advance, Henry |

Thank you. That is very useful. I felt exactly the same when I saw how early the 1056 engine number was. I told my friend I thought it was a very early 73 car perhaps the first 1000 or so made in 1973.
Thanks for your help. It is very much appreciated. Henry |

The plate in the door jam is the paint code.
As for information, Porsches COA web site states "You can also call 1-800-PORSCHE, option 5, with questions." They charge to issue the COA, give some informtion for free verbaly. I spoke with them before ordering my COA to make sure it was worth it. To get an idea of the build date, if they are original the instruments and wheels have date codes. My 73.5 gages are dated 5/73, Fuchs are dated 6/73, and build date is 7/73.

I just learned that for the US market there was a something called a 911 T/E It appears that I have one of those. A T that was delivered with mechanical fuel injection for the US market in early 73. So, I have a T that is also E. Further, my spare motor is a 911/51 engine, a 2.4 911T-E for USA mechanical injection. So, not only do I now know that my car is something other than a run of the mill T, (but perhaps not quite an E), I happen to have a motor that just happen to have an engine on the shelf from this same sort of model. Meanwhile, the motor in the car is a 930/02 which I know is also somewhat unique. Lots of surprises here. I wonder if the 2.4 is from the right date range? Car is 9113101168 T-E 2.4 motor is 6131190 (type 911/51 T-E) Do I have a match?

Thanks!
I'll have to check my spare tranny that came with the engine to see if it is also a match. The engine surfaced in the same area that the car came from. I wonder what the chances are that it was the actual motor from my car? This all leaves me with quite a dilemma going forward. After a number of future years of enjoyment, sell my somewhat rare 3.0 Carrera motor one day and install the hot rodded 2.4 with E/S cylinders etc, turn the car back from an RSR to a narrow car as delivered, or simply sell the 2.4 and forget the whole thing. Meanwhile I am having fun with my short stroke 3.0 pretending that I am driving a 2.8 RSR I appreciate the info that you provided.

Hello, To add a bit more confusion [for me] . I have been given some information on this forum prior. Mine has 9113101905 and on the left hand door frame [below engine pull handle] on sticker it has perforated numbers 2/73 and 9113101905. Had an 0 438 140 001 W U R. Fuel pump mounted above left hand rear suspension. Etc.... I purchased car in U.S.A. in June 1994. Regards Michael.
