Prepping a car for the hurricane
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum folks but I had a quick question. I get my classic car insurance through GEICO who subcontracts to American Modern insurance. In the policy my car is stored at my in laws house in their garage. Their house is by a lake, and a friend offered me a spot in his warehouse. The warehouse is built like a fort and given the hurricane winds I'm more comfortable having the car there. Plus being farther from water I think it reduces the chances of flood. That said, I'm worried moving it to the warehouse will affect my coverage SHOULD flooding happen.
Anyone have any insight on this? And to my fellow Florida Pelicans. Stay safe :/

Your insurance agent is the only one that can authoritatively answer that. Call him.

during Sandy my car was totaled and it was parked on a city street - I would assume if you were driving your car on the street and got t-boned or was hit with a flash flood that it would still be covered...

I'd move mine to a safer place regardless of what the insurance co wants.

I doubt very seriously you will get an agent to put anything in writing. The bottom line is that the best possible situation is for your car to be undamaged. That is the best case for you and the insurance company. If moving it to a different location is best, then that's what I would do. Everyone gets worried (rightfully so) about the endless ways insurance companies can deny coverage. If they want to be jerks, they will and you'll have to fight that fight regardless. But given a storm like this, I think they have bigger fish to fry.

I bought this 67 911S soft window 6/01 from the last big Texas flood.
Very sad.

Spoke to my insurance company. They registered the new address and said any move to make the car safer was a ok.

Get some cinder blocks under the car's tires and get it up high off the ground!

I got an email from American Collectors saying they will reimburse up to $250 I think it was to relocate my car to a safer location.

Go Gators!

We are right in the path of Irma, on the Gulf coast about 50 miles north of Tampa. We have a stilt house and my Targa is on a lift in my garage. Unfortunately, the motor and recently rebuilt trans were still on the floor of the garage today. We may get a strong storm surge, so guess what's on the dining room menu? My wife is very understanding and even helped me move it off the elevator!

Tim S,
I just showed your post to my wife to prove to her that I am not the only crazy Porsche Tim who would ask his wife if he could put an engine, transmission and toolbox in the dining room! Y'all stay safe and dry! -Tim I
