The elusive 911 targa rear window louvers
I've went hunting for these here before but figured I'd try my luck again.
Whether or not you think so, rear window louvers are badass. I can find F body camaro and old RX7 window louvers all day long but I can't seem to dig up any for a 911 targa. Surely they were made by companies back in the 80's for these cars, no? I want a set so badly that I can almost taste it! And it taste like Steak-Umms and a Tab cola. I have many US dollars for anyone that has a set that is willing to part with them. Anyone?

I'd love to see louvers for a targa if they exist. I've never seen targa ones and can't even sure how it'd be installed.
However I found this pic of louvers for a coupe.

I just finished these. It was quite fiddley making the brackets it took a while since i couldnt do any welding on the car. I used lexan for the louvers. They came out awesome I love the look

Totally awesome, I knew someone would make their own. Why not, great job. And I see that Camaro in the back ground!

I stumbled upon this old '70's ad in the off topic section. It mentions 911/912 MITCOM "SUNOUT" REAR WINDOW SHADE including All 911/912 Targas:

I like the "911 styling conversion" so back then they were making the older cars look new and now they are making the newer cars look old. No one is ever happy!

I certainly would be interested. Perhaps if there was enough interest, porsche930dude might be convinced to go into production, or sell his plans/ideas to a manufacturing co. that could mass produce them. Whaddya think? |

I’d think that window tint may accomplish the same thing without the issues of the vents as the side of the rear Targa glass would be difficult to cover. It would be interesting to see a picture of the old Mitcom unit on a Targa - can’t say I’ve ever seen one.

I remember a time when any modified car sported a set of louvres. They would deteriorate in he sun and crack and the back window was never clean. But it did make it dark inside!

Can you give a small blurb on how you went about fitting the brackets and attaching it to the glass? It looks like you used the same pecan material for the brackets and then used something akin to windshield caulk for adhesive. How bad was it bending and forming this to your window? I may try my hand at making this for a targa, it’ll be interesting.

Yes thae brackets are all steel. They slide under the rubber to hold it down. No glue. Just foam to keep it off the glass. I made a video that explains everything.

I have been looking for a set of louvers since I bought my 930. Not found a set for sale yet. Wish someone made them available again.
