How'd you get the 3.6 smog legal? I'm struggling to fit the OEM exhaust and intake.

964 heat exchangers with cat can be used however the crossover pipe has to be modified to clear 915 clutch linkage. The referee I have gone to allows headers with a approved cat to be used also. He says they are ok since there are no CA approved headers and it is a motor swap. I was not going to argue. Factory air cleaner car fit with some trimming. Car needs a check engine light also.

Thanks. It started out with a free used 930 turbo I put on a crate 350. Six months later it finally blew a head gasket when I put 14lbs boost in it. I already had a 383 small block with low compression Mahle pistons ready to go in next. Got a 76mm Garrett ball bearing turbo on it now also. Makes about 600hp 600tq on pump gas. It out ran my 480hp 965 when I raced my son at local drags. I did have drag radials on truck though.

Nice project that is coming along well. Mark helped alot, (alot-alot ) with sorting my riviera blue rsr, not to mention building the 3.8 and trans to back it up. I am more than happy to give him some tips on the backdate, this is going to be an awesome car!

Looking good Mark! I must have looked at the ad for that car 10 times. It got plenty of use in the PCA TT series, seemed like a super reliable (and fast) car. You gonna let Erik go for the TTOD again when it's done?

I'm interested in seeing the progress as well! Converting race cars to street/track duty is something that I want to do too!

Such a sad day to see race cars reaching retirement.

I would love to at least let my sons run it again at the stadium before they bulldoze it. As far as TT/de use it might have to be up to the next owner. I was very busy in the recession buying up cheap shorthoods and building them into track cars and always tried to sell them to local buyers. It has turned out to be a very good source of cars for me now. I have bought back and resold a black SC 3.6 car four times now and it has never left town each time.

Hey Mark,
I was referred to you by a friend on the forum. I just picked up a 1983 SC coupe with turbo flares. I plan to make a project of the car and am considering replacing the SC engine with a 993 3.6L engine from Instant G. I see that your SC has a M64 engine which you indicate is emissions compliant. Can you give me any information on what is involved in making a replacement 993 smog legal in CA? Thanks and best regards, Greg

The 993 motor car run factory heat exchangers and cats in a SC chassis mods to outlet pipes. Hopefully it is a 1995 obd1 motor which makes the smog easier. Stock air filter needs to be on motor along with a check engine light on dash. Be sure to get a conversion harness that has the wiring for the CEL. Instant G or Patrick Motorsports could help you with conversion parts that are for a smog car. Get an apt with referee and expect to make two trips before passing test. They will usually have a list of issues to fix before passing.
Good luck, Mark

Mark, what will you use for sound deadening on the rear seat and parcel shelf?

There is a very light version of the factory pad that we use a lot. Looks almost factory and doesn't fall down like the original ones do. Car should be painted in about two months. Stop by sometime.

Is that the pad in the engine bay or the one behind the seats?

Can I get your refs location I just put in my 3.6 and was thinking I would put on my 3.0 exhaust for the check.
Also do you know if you can pass with a cone filter vs a factory air box?

Edit just saw your response to runner4fun.

3.0 exhaust could work just make sure converter has the correct number on it. The ref is pretty far south at a junior college in chula vista. I need to look up name of college
