1971 911T SSI exhaust with Carrera trailing arms
Having rubbing issues with passenger side shock rubbing against header. What's the best fix? I really do not want to bend lip of header. I was also thinking of cutting off 1 inch on lower shock mount of trailing arm to change angle.Any other suggestions?

Carrera trailing arm mod
I just found the link. Took me about an hour to find. Quoting Bill V. This mod has to be done to 69-71 cars. 25mm which is about a 1in. Should be cut off to give shock the right angle.

Oh wow, interesting. I haven't seen that mod before, but it makes sense now that I can see what you mean.

Are we modifying both left and right arms so the damping rate remains equal left to right? Changing the angle changes the rate and that is fine as long as both sides are changed equally.

Well documented problem when using aluminum arms on the 69-71 cars. Take a gander at https://members.rennlist.com/911pcars/AlloyContrlArms.htm
if you haven't done so already. Todd

The rear shock cross-member mount has a different angle than 72+ cars. It is well documented the rubbing on the early cars as others have posted.
On my old 71 I had to mill the trailing arm and "massage" the lip on the SSIs to clear. I just folded it down with a hammer. Easy.

Here's my measurement. Shock will clear SSI heat exchanger and CV boot. Keep in mind that when shock rises the clearance will be greater. We'll post more pics after cut is made.

great write-up!
I would like to use aluminum trailing arms also on my 1971 911T. Were you able to use the same 1/2 shaft, hub, bearing set etc. as was originally on your 911T. My car uses a 901 transmission and also has SSI headers.
Thanks in advance, Fred

Here is the modification done. Clears heat exchanger and axle boot with no problems. I did have to use shorter bolt on lower shock mount.

I did it myself. It was easy. Using a electric saw with metal cutting blade.
