Fire Extinguisher Solution

I ran across a new fire extinguisher solution for our cars on Instagram of all places. It is called the Element (https://www.elementfire.com/). No affilitation, just an interesting product. I ended up purchasing the Element 50 ($80) for my 911. It comes with a plastic bracket (just one) with two holes. Going to figure out a way to mount to the passenger seat. They also sell a custom bracket for cars but it is almost $200!

It is a lot smaller/lighter than a traditional extinguisher. Has anyone had any real-world experience with one of these? It almost sounds too good to be true but for $80, it's compelling enough to check out. Hopefully I will never have to find out.

I bought a couple of them. The form factor is really appealing! Crazy how small and light they are. Haven't deployed them of course, but I love the concept.

I do like the form factor! Thanks for sharing.

Any idea what kind of chemical it is? If it was halotron it would be a real bonus. The advantage of halotron extinguishers is halotron doesn’t leave a huge mess and is not electrically conductive so no danger in fried electronics.

In the video did they really show someone opening the hood when there is a known fire under there? I'm gonna go ahead and say bad call.

I was thinking the same thing, but the website states it lasts for 50 seconds versus 11 seconds for the traditional one shown in the photo. The Element Fire extinguisher is rated for A-B-C-K (Wood-Electrical-Oil-Grease) not for Class D fires (metals/magnesium).

I have one of the larger traditional fire extinguishers in my car, NOT rated to extinguish metals, my purpose is to get the flames down long enough to allow any passengers and myself to GET OUT and AWAY.

I’m researching metal fire extinguishers now (Class D)

But you gotta love the size of the Element unit.

I did an installation on my 911 with this Viper for picture purpose.

It is actually Mr.Cervinka`s patent in Czech Republic.

CAR-VIPER — productpilot.com

In another way ..how many of you have seen 911 on fire.I did once in 35 years. It was due to clogged catalyst on 1986 Carrera. And that was not even on fire just red hot exhaust ready for hot dogs.
The other was only seeing it after the fire , when a shop(Automotive Pit Stop) in Sherman Oak went up in flames with plenty of 930 and 911 inside and parking lot.it was not a nice picture when i got there.
I think we have already talked here about it..it was insurance scam...

Ivan

so it is nice to have one in the car but again unless your mechanic does something cococo the 911 are safe.

Ivan
here is a sample

Suggestion: 10 people send me $10 check. Will order one and test. Will take video for us... then post on YouTube. If this works... is brilliant! If not... we know. (Risk is I take money and retire in Switzerland living on interest.)

I’m in. But whose 911 are you going to set on fire?

Ha! That's an entertaining question. Have some local Porsche friends. Want to keep them. Am thinking a fuel vs magnesium fire test. If we want to go magnesium, would need donor fan housing. Suggest we not over think it... Just get on with fuel.

Serious parties PM me for my address.

Edit: apology to ya Busta. Will move this program to its own thread.

How long do they last?

Dunno, sorry, I've had the good fortune to never need one.

Where did you purchase these, Bill?

I got them from a chainsaw shop here in NZ.

If you want to test any of these extinguishers on magnesium there is no need to destroy a fan housing. Use a magnesium fire starter kit. They’re cheap.

I looked into this type of fire extinguisher a few years ago. The company is in Italy. They are used in Rally. I will definitely purchase at least one of them to keep in the car. They work very well and are supposed to outperform a standard extinguisher on all levels including no residue from the product.

If they can handle a oil and electrical wiring fire then they clearly hold a value. I'd like to see a proper test on that.
