Keeping busy doesn't help. I lost my running buddy in March and here at the end of September, I constantly remind myself NOT to do all the dog things I've been doing for the last 29 years. Here's my bud when younger. . .

After 5 months I have finally found the strength to get back in the shop. I took some time to gather my thoughts and get my hands moving again.

I got passenger rocker, door post, quarter panel, and SC flare finished up. Flare seam is virtually invisible. Two coats of SPI epoxy and ready for some finishing work.

Thanks man. I had no idea this would be this hard. I’ve been looking at pups, but think I’m going to wait till spring time so I can raise him on our boat.

It feels good to smell oil, metal, and gasoline again!

Got passenger side rear wheel well stripped and ready for Epoxy.

Perfecting the passenger send fender to door gap. Still working on it. Then need to finish the backside so work is not visible

Jim, need to become a master of lead-loading next! Eastwood sells what you'd need. John

You’ll learn it well, I have no doubt, and that’ll yield another “next level” touch to your creations.
I bet that other guy wishes he’d had you do **his** shell...huh? Do it once, do it right!
Rock on dude.

My opinion is that lead is old world for a reason and it’s not because no one can figure out how to use it. I truly hate to say this but it’s inferior in every way besides cool factor to modern plastic fillers

I think there is something to be said about lead, but agreed, Bondo works great, IF you use it correctly.

I was very surprised to find PLASTIC FILLER from the factory on my 911 when I stripped it to do a full repaint.

The joint between the rocker panel and the rear door jam had what looked like Bondo under the original paint.

The 3M Platinum filler line is the best you can get these days. It's all I use. That and Perfect It and Trizact.

A

I still say lead (or however it's made now) offers a level of durability in something like the door edge situation Jim is tackling than a plastic filler could. It seems like the best shops still do that. For regular panel surfacing, plastic. That said, I am kind of talking out of my posterior, being more of an observer than doer. As per usual!

Weld steel where strength is needed and fill the minor details. He already welded in the gaps with steel. What does lead offer at this point? If you want something stronger than normal filler then use marglass. I’ve never worked on an old car that didn’t have cracking joints and paint over where lead was used. It was easy and it was fast but it doesn’t last. Factories used lead over large joints and troughs where panels joined. They often times spot welded the panels in these joints and slathered the lead over them. As a restorer you can take the time to properly weld things up so lead is no longer necessary.

So I elected to use all new donor panels as my doors and fenders were not worth fixing and I’m paying for it now. I thought it would save me some time, however it’s taking twice as long to fit new stuff
