Can you help me identify these seats ?
The site bolsters look like sport seats but the piping extending up and to the head rest in the shape of the bottoms look like regular seats.

That is a very unusual piping pattern, normally it would follow the seam all the way through. That is the original upholstery for the seats, right? Hopefully someone here may have seen this before, cause I never seen it.

Good morning.
It is unusual, the person I bought them from claims they are original but my guess is that it was redone a long time ago. Gordon - are you looking?

I have a set with sport backs and regular bottoms that I was told were from a 944.

Sorry to say, but those are not sport seats or sport seat back rests. I suspect they are from an early 80s 911 but possibly also a 944 of the same vintage..
When you are saying piping, you're referring to the thin cord like piece that's sewn into the seam up the edge of the seat back, up over the head rest and back down the other side? And then again around the perimeter of the base? That's piping and it looks perfectly normal to me on your seats. The cloth pinstripe type upholstery isn't all that common, but again, not terribly odd. Typically it wouldn't continue up into the head rest and would usually be the vinyl there. The same pinstripe cloth upholstery and red piping, mid-80s I believe: ![]() Same seats and upholstery pattern as yours, different colour in an '83 SC: ![]() Early 80s sport seats, ivory with black piping in an 83 SC: ![]() Late 80s port seats have a far more pronounced rounded profile bolster on the seat bottom and back:

Thanks Kevin.
Do you know what year cars had the more squared off upper bolstering (like in the SC picture).

There was a transition in seat styles at the end of the SC era and beginning of the 3.2 Carrera. I'm a bit foggy there about which year and if the sport seats changed at the same time. However, I believe 1984 was the last year of the more square seats.

The squared off upper headrest with the continuation of the back center cloth going all the way to the top went through 84. 85 was the first year for the separate insert in the back where the side bolsters and headrest were a continuous section.

Was that the same time. We are the side upper posterior became more rounded?

Not sure what you're asking, but probably. The seats changed in the later 70s (for MY77 I think) and then changed again between MY84 and 85. That was for the structure of the seats. There were different varieties of upholstery, but the basic building blocks of the seat were the same throughout that version. Obviously there were differences between standard and sport seats. I think the comfort seat of the late 80s was just an upholstery style.

Those seat are from 1977 to 1983. Seats changed in 1984,for the Carrera's. From 1974 to 1976 they were referd to as the tombstone seat ,because of the backrest shape .

I think the first year of the 3.2 Carrera had the SC style of seat and then changed in 85.

Yes, and also the release lever for rear seat access move from the bolster side (about 1/2 up) up towards the base of the head rest (about 3/4 up)

definitely sport seats-notice the large and deep bolsters to keep you fitted in
