Original yellow H4 lenses are a mythical creature that never existed until some elves in recent years decided to make yellow lenses with molds made from clear lenses. In short, Bosch never made yellow H4 lenses, French H4s had yellow bulbs, but they do look good and priced well.

RICK RAES I know what you are saying and from our intel we know that yellow headlights were mandatory in France, 1936 until 1993. Since January 1993 all new cars had to go with white headlights. Until 1993 some car manufacturers, in order to reduce their production costs, put white lenses and make the bulbs yellow. I believe you refer to the later part when white lenses and yellow bulbs where fitted. Nevertheless thanks for your feedback on this topic!

We lived in France for a while and yellow lenses abound, including on some 911's.

Actually not true that the yellow lights are illegal in all states. I was surprised to find that here in the Illinois (Land of Lincoln and most notably, corruption ) that yellow lights are clearly allowed according to the IL Compiled Statutes

Look under Chapter 12, Article 2 and it says yellow or amber

625Â*ILCSÂ*5/Â*Â*Illinois Vehicle Code.

But i'm sure one can argue that the Euro H4 lights are technically not DOT compliant. Only the H1 and H5 Bosch lights have the DOT marking on the lens. But is someone really going to check for the DOT marking? Maybe a sharp police officer would. And as soon as you leave IL, all bets are off where else the lights are allowed.......
