FWIW, in a crossmember discussion awhile back, Walt Fricke shared his results of his lightened and reinforced engine crossmember:
Quote:
Factory crossbar: 1133 gms = 39.96 oz = 2.5 lbs. Drilled crossbar: 1369 gms = 48.29 oz.= 3 lbs. My bars: Factory crossbar: 1400.47 gms = 49.4 oz = 3.09 lb. ![]() Drilled and reinforced crossbar, mat'l added top and bottom edges, both sides create a T-cross section, 1740.66 gms = 61.40 oz = 3.83 lbs. ![]() For comparison, advtracing's drilled and reinforced bar = 1.1 kg = 2 lb. 6.8 oz. or 2.425 lbs. Note: Scale accuracy is a variable. Sherwood |
