Rare Scheel Seat

For sale is an extremely rare Scheel 400 for LWB given the earlier ones did not have the headrest. Needs resto but patina looks amazing. I never intended to restore it but I have decided to use my Scheel 300 Racing seat instead. Seat rails are not included as shown. Absolutely original vinyl down to the original Recaro recliner knob/handle. I have more high res photos available. Selling as is and for restoration. As always, offers are welcome. Shipping is included to CONUS/Europe/$N/A. Paypal+3% or otherwise via Friends. Interior photo shows the identical Recaro version.

Its a scheel seat judging by the removable back on the backrest and the shape of the bolsters etc.
The interior photo is also a scheel, but an earlier version of this seat with a fixed headrest that is mounted on a U shaped bracket. The one for sale has the headrest guides in the back of the seatback. It has the rare scheel 'lightweight' GT sliders, but it does have a recaro peanut headrest.

Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, I'm keeping the GT Sliders for my Scheel 300 Racing seat. It is also not uncommon for a buyer to choose which headrest they prefer at the time of purchase. I also had another Scheel 100 with an original Recaro peanut headrest which I purchased from the original owner.

Never seen those chrome hinges on a Scheel seat. Looks like a home made down under product.

They look like standard chrome hinges on all comfort and sport seats in 2002’s and 911’s until 1971. First gen Idealsitz used the same hinges, but only available in German domestic market in period I think.

Hinges went black in ‘72/‘73 before tombstone seats ‘74 on.

It's unfortunate that you make an unfounded accusation that the hinge is a 'homemade down-under' device when in fact you are actually simply ill informed..do a bit more research next time. I understand though, we all have to start somewhere.

In support of the fact that the chrome hinge on the Scheel seat for sale are originals, shown below are the same chrome hinges on an even earlier 'pre-headrest' 1968 Scheel seat I had including the same identical rare Recaro GT seat rail/slider. Thanks to Uli as well for the last photo, one of the world's expert on vintage racing seats!

Incidentally, to anyone interested, make me an offer, I need the 1969 Scheel seat gone (the one with the Recaro headrest). I have another one arriving and need the space!!!! Cheers.

Below is another rare early Scheel seat I had from 1968, the pre headrest version. I rest my case.

the recaro (ideal seat) had a completely different hinge: no three screws at the top, a kink in the upper area of the hinge and a few other things. chrome recaro ideal hinge was only available for bmw.the hinge is also not identical to the porsche standard seat (spring core until 1973). to the scheel seat: the hinge is original. but it is not the case that the chrome hinge points to an older construction year than the same black hinge. the chrome hinge was an option for an extra charge. the recaro button on the hinge of this seat is correct. back then, scheel bought such parts from recaro.

hope i could help.

regards

You are correct on the Porsche comfort seats but, Porsche sport seats didn't have chrome hinges. From '67 on, they were the black finish.

The early Scheels did use some Recaro parts and Al's Scheel has the correct hinge hardware.

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, these (and the Idealsitz S) are contemporaneous seats for LWB longhoods and they are fantastic for feel and for holding you in place in the twisties.

It wasn't unusual in the early 70s for a buyer to specify one sport seat for the driver, as significant others didn't like climbing over aggressive bolsters.

Thank you Sir for your eloquence. Still for sale and much rarer and sexier than the Idealsitz in my opinion.
