Porsche 911 bosch h1 headlights with led high beams
PORSCHE 911 BOSCH H1 HEADLIGHTS WITH LED HIGH BEAMS
$1585 In 1967 Porsche had Bosch develop these incredible headlights specifically for the 1968 911S. As 911's got faster and faster they were concerned that drivers would "out drive" their headlights illumination at night. Bosch installed two H1 Halogen bulbs with their own reflectors in EACH headlight - one for high beam and one for low beam. The high beams and low beams were individually adjustable so there are four adjustment screws on each headlight. The owner could precisely adjust all four H1 bulbs. The headlights were bolt-in replacements for the earlier headlights AND the later "Sugar Scoop" type. They even used the same three prong plugin connectors. Later Bosch made a similar H4 version, but they are not nearly as good. Since they only had one H4 bulb and one reflector so high and low beam were not individually adjustable. But they were MUCH cheaper to make. I discovered Bosch H1 911 headlights in the 1970's and that was all I would run on them after that. But I quickly switched out the 55W Halogen high beams for 100W bulbs. They shined so far that I could turn the adjustment up to shine many yards further. It was like I had turned on the sun on back country roads. The downside was that they drew a lot of amperage and put out incredible heat in the headlight buckets so I used them sparingly . Later on I got my 1968 911S Soft Window Targa (shown in 1st photo, but not included) which came with them and I learned the back story on the H1's when I read the Standard Equipment List for the car. High output H1 LED's are a natural for these great lights. They are several times brighter than even the 100W Halogens while drawing 1/10th the amps. They also run much cooler than even the 55W halogens. These headlights were made in Germany. They are not new, but in excellent condition. One does have a very minor ding in the metal ring (shown in last picture). I have included some rudimentary light comparisons in the last few pictures. They are not great, but you can get an idea of the difference between 100W compared to 55W and the LED's compared to the 100W. I also included a picture of the 55W low beams. Followed by a picture with them installed in a 911. 100W Halogen on left side and LED on right side. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
