maybe I'm reading this wrong but
63S 04******* is a 1995 RoW M64.05, n-vram

these do use a 55 pin version of the Motronic that can be converted for use w/ V-ram, but it requires a chip and 2 wiring harness changes

the engine mount console and rear tin is missing but it does appear to have had the a/c removed and an RS single sheave pully added

Good morning Bill,
thank you very much for your feedback. I just checked and you are right, the engine is from '95 and apparently only variorams were available on the RS engines at that time.
Unfortunately, I don't have any information about the original owner, only that the engine comes from a trackday car that was totalled.
Could this be a ‘hybrid engine’? Why would someone go to so much trouble and expense, is there extra horsepower to gain only with the Varioram? The engine is currently still at my mechanic's, I'm requesting a compression and leakdown test.
Would more/better photos help you find out more about the engine? Thanks in advance. Regards, Nico

The VarioRam Manifold appears to be painted/powercoated.
What is the case designation by the S/n?

It shouldn't have been difficult or expensive to adapt a v-ram intake to a '95 n-vram.

In Europe they were both Motronic 2.1 w/ 55 pin DME & harness, the harness comes w/ all the connectors for either set up
you do need a readily available chip that is coded for the vram, a few minor vacuum line changes and and 2 wire changes

1) Resonator: The forward solenoid feeds the resonator. For this use the YELLOW and WHITE wire on the DME HARNESS that had triggered the head bower relay. Run this to either directly to the actuator, with the second wire as HOT or run it to position #4 of the 21pin main DME harness to engine harness connector (X60), which should match up with a GREY/WHITE wire if you have the later engine harness with VRam connectors that the factory upgraded most cars to. When all is said and done this will have connectivity between the 55-pin DME connector Position #32 and the Resonator actuator (Gray/White) wire.

2) VRam: This is now actuated by the signal on the 95 that HAD actuated the resonator. This is a grey and white wire on top of the motor which leads to a two-pin bullet connector. You can extend this wire about 18” and change the connector to a standard bosch fuel injector connector and go right to the VRam actuator. The cleaner way to go is to open up the DME harness where all the wires separate in the engine compartment and tap into the GRAY/WHITE wire, and extend this to the 21-pin main DME to ENGINE harness connector (X60) positon 18. This is directly across from the pin used above and should have a GREEN/WHITE wire plugged into it on the engine side. When all is said and done there should be continuity between the DME connector #1 and the GREEN/WHITE connector on the VRAM Solenoid actuator connection.

3) Be sure both actuators have 12V to the red/white wire on each connector with the engine fired up.

the valves on the n-vram are slightly smaller than on v-ram,

n-vram ports are 43/39mm and valves are 49/42.5mm

v-ram ports are 43/39 and valves are 50/43.5mm
