Distributor Rebuild Or Replace?

I have a 68S, tread on plate that the points are attached to is stripped, points are currently held on with selftapping screw. I have 3 questions:

1. Can I get the distributor reconditioned, or 2. Can I replace with another? 3. Would I need to replace with exactly the same distributor or would another unit do as good or a better job?

thanks, rich

One option would be to replace the contact points with an optical trigger (Crane, MSD, etc.). However, if the bearing shaft is shot, I'd recommend having the bearing replaced. In any case, check the rest of the dist. and refurbish as needed.
