Fidanza l/w flywheel (13 lbs) for a 993 3.6L - NA or turbo. P/N 199301 - $675 retail Will not work on 993 RS. Might work on 3.6L (964) - see my reasoning lower in this thread. $300 firm

I am interested in the flywheel.
Why won't it fit a 993 RS or 964 engine? Andy |

Don't know it wouldn't specifically fit a 993 RS or 964 ... but there are different part numbers for those applications in the Fidanza catalog.
If I recall, the 964 uses a dual cap distributor (cam driven) to fire the plugs. This flywheel has a toothed ring to be used with a sensor to fire an electronic ignition system.

I am very interested.
Can you let me know how heavy the flywheel is please. All 964's & 993's use a 60 minus 2 teeth gear on the flywheel for the motronic system. They also have a hall sender in the distributor to give the ECU a signal to let it know when no 1 cylinder is firing. This is for the sequential injection. Thanks Andy |

13 lbs.
After looking at the Pelican catalog, it appears that all normally-aspirated 3.6L between '90-98 can use the same flywheel. Therefore I'd venture to say this flywheel would fit any NA 964 or 993 - but I don't know why the Fidanza catalog (www.fidanza.com) shows a difference. According to the Pelican catalog, 964 turbos ('91-94) and 993 turbos ('95-98) use different flywheels. The Fidanza catalog shows this flywheel will also work on a 993 turbo. So it would be safe to say, that for some reason, this flywheel won't work on a 964 turbo. What is really confusing is that the Fidanza catalog states their 964 flywheel is the same as their 993 RS - but that flywheel is heavier at 14 lbs.

Sorry, I should have read the first thread, & then I would see its 13lbs.
I will have to pass on this one. I have a flywheel that I weighed over the weekend and it's lighter than 13lbs. It would be great for a 964/993 which has the dual mass flywheel. Those things are seriously heavy. Good luck with the sale. Andy |
