Cat Bypass (Test Pipe) w/ O2 Sensor for 1980-1989 911es
In the shop we have a lightly used Cat Bypass (sometimes referred to as a "Test Pipe".)
This piece fits the 911 from 1980 through 1989. It is a simple, 10 minute bolt-on which lives between the stock exhaust manifold and the stock (single in) exhaust pipe, replacing the catalytic converter. The manufacturer (Bursch, I believe) claims a 10% increase in horsepower. In addition, we know for a fact there is a big improvement in throttle response. And as a side benefit, your motor runs cooler because of less back-pressure. These are recommended for use on the track or off-road, for added power. For those living in states with strict emission laws, one would want to swap this with their stock cat when returning to the street. Most places sell these for $275. We would like $175 plus shipping, and will consider offers. Ed LoPresti 607-535-4237 RaceProEngineering [at] ATT [dot] net |

Is this a "test pipe" or a pre-muffler?

![]() I just swapped mine out this weekend, though it's a Fabspeed, and it's a nice change. Particulary from 4500-6500 RPM. Smoother throttle response as well....... But I have yet to get it all swapped in ten minutes, you guys are GOOD !!! -Chris

You do realize that Pelican sells these for $165.00? Thats why I thought it may be a pre-muff!

SC,
Krono_Knut mentioned that too. We paid right around $ 275 for this piece a couple years ago, so either the Pelican piece does not have the oxygen sensor spigot, OR is of drastically different quality, OR it is not manufactured by Bursch, OR the price has plummeted on these in 2 years! Give us some time to sort this out, and we shall respond accordingly to everyone who has inquired, keeping their original "in-line" order. Thanks, Ed LoPresti |

CLARIFICATION:
The cat bypass we have for sale is PROBABLY the GHL Stainless model which Pelican sells new for ~ $ 275. There are no identifying marks to indicate manufacturer. It could also be the FabSpeed item, but does not appear to emulate the shape of the OEM catalytic converter, nor does it have that "show car shine". -- (Chris - By the way, that is a very nice looking piece you just installed! We are certain you will love it!) -- The part for sale is slightly darkened in places on the surface from the light-weight machine oil we put on it to store it. We also have some gaskets which will work for the surface where the test pipe mates to the stock tailpipe. -- krono_knut - Are you still interested? Thanks, Ed |
