Exclamation WTB. Coupling Flange, part number 9 as seen in thread.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=85404&highlight=steering+rack

Does anybody have part#9 description coupling flange as seen in the referenced thread above for sale. My pinion looks good, but my coupling flange is definately shot and missing most of the splines..

I really need one of these in order to get back on the road / track.

Thanks for looking,

-Ivan

Ivan, looked at the picture but it doesn't look like all the later 911 ones I've seen. You are talking about the part that clamps around the input shaft for the steering rack? All the SC and later cars have a simple clamp with bolt and nut. Is it for your 86?

Yep, looking for a part workable on an 86 911 Carrera ROW. The part in the picture isn't quite identical in material.

I'm working on getting a camera to take pic of the bad one. I'll post a pic after work today.

It looks like it's made of the same type of alloy as the gold in color metal blocks which carry seat bolts under the rails. Just a bit longer, forged into the shape and the splined center hole. there is no clamping force other than provided by the nut.

I was considering trying a VW Type 3 steering coupler which is more like you describe with a larger holding area and a clamp mechanism with bolt and nut.

It's actually a small u joint. It is cad plated to a gold color. I can't remember if the joint comes off of the rod or not. The rod goes up through the smugglers box and then has the same joint that attaches to your steering column shaft. I have both the shaft and both u joints and I can see if the u joint end comes off if you don't want the assembly. E-mail me at group911@aol.com

I have the part in my hand. Still working on getting a photo.
It isn't a U-joint at all and is mounted in the same location as part 9.

This is attached directly to the pinion on the rack side of the rubber steering rack coupler disc. The coupler disc connects to the coupler flange. The flange is what I'm looking for.

If one disconnects the rubber coupler disc via the two bolts on the lock plates, the flange will be visable. Held in place by a lock nut.

I confirmed at lunch that this part typically isn't available unless one buys the whole rack new or pull from a parts car.
