What are Ruf wheels worth?
I have a set of 17" RUF classics that I am realistically never going to use. I keep hanging onto them but I need to get rid of some of my parts. They are 9's and 10's with tires but the tires are worn. The wheels are not perfect but they are nice. I think these are made for a widebody car.
What are they worth???

LARennsport has been selling a few sets of Ruf Classic wheels. You may want to send him a PM asking what the wheels have been selling for.
Also, I spoke to a local enthusiast who recently purchased a set of 9&10x17 Ruf classics from a different seller. I think he paid just north of $2k for the set. |

Thank you!

That sounds somewhat right. I sent LA renn a message saying I'd go 1500 on the smaller ones and go higher if need be and there was time. No reply, so they are apparently worth more than the 1500+ that I could have spent.
BTW, I wouldn't ask him about prices. Stick to threads like this. |

If they are in good shape but not brand new looking I'd say around $1,800 plus for the set. I wouldn't want to let mine go for less.

The original Ruf "Speedline" Classics rarely come up for sale...especially the 9's and 10's. They are worth what the new Avus repop's are selling for. They are, in my opinion, better than the new wheels, look "right" and are stronger. These are rare parts and the market is treating them as such. Best of luck w/your sale.

Nice quality replies from everyone. I have been playing with these a long time. We need to consider that the earliest wheels are for the Dunlop Deloc run flats [I have seen some people avoid these] BUT I have never heard of an issue with using them with regular tires. Also, "condition" is a pretty big deal. It cost around $500-600 to refresh a set as long as they are not damaged. Another tidbit: these are very tough wheels and you can safely repair a fairly chewed up wheel that would be trash if it were a comparable Fuchs. These are still the best.
Good luck with your sale. John Rice |

Depending on how you want to refresh....Al Reed here in LA will do 1 color (no polished lip) for about $60/wheel. If you want to get the lip polished I think you need to source another vendor. But I agree totally w/what John says. He's spot on.

Actually the smaller ones are probably worth more as there are fewer of those around that were produced to fit under the Carrera/SC flare. The larger 9 & 10s for widebody cars are more plentiful as that's where the money was for Ruf during the 80's and 90's when these wheels were really hot. In essence, there are more of the "big ones" around and they in my opinion are worth a bit less. Oh, and did we mention the weight? Ruf wheels are quite heavy in case no one noticed! As far as refinishing, the orignal wheels did not nhave a polished lip. They had either whart is called a "machine finish" or "diamond cut" lip. Both finishes are very hard to reproduce and thus the polished lip has become acceptable. P- Last edited by onboost; 12-29-2006 at 11:28 PM.. |
