Shaun, it will work fine with out the coil spring, but make sure the one you put on the other side has a matching spindle hieght. Some of these have raised spindles, and there are two different heights.
Are you looking for 3.5 inch caliper struts? I will look around here for a pair. I sold a set a while back cheap.... cheers

What is the caliper bolt spacing on that strut, 3", or 3.5"?

You had me thinking so I measured and confirmed that the spacing from center to center of the mounting holes is 3.5".
