I am currently having 10 dash pads custom made for the early cars. I have a '65 which I am about to restore and have an original dash pad but the black vinyl is dried out and cracked. The early dashes had a pattern of small holes for the radio speaker but the punch is long gone so I researched and found a laser could duplicate the pattern perfectly. Sadly the cost of programming and setup was rather horrendous but the the actual cutting took little time. So I have stuck my neck out and am currently having 10 blanks cut. It's my hope that others will be in similar need and order some of the surplus. There are two pieces involved in the dash. The flatter section with the speaker holes and the molded section over the instrument gauges. The upholsterer selected a material which is so close to the original it's amazing but additionally it has a special backing which can be molded to the contours of the guage area Iif you're a professional). The flat sections should be done this week and the blanks for the guage area will be ready soon. Doing it this way, I can offer the blanks alone if you are a competent upholsterer or have access to one, or my guy can do the entire dash for you. If you're interested, please get back to me.

A 68 dash differs from a 65-67.

I would like to be contacted once the blanks are available.

Regards,

Richard

I've always thought a "bump" meant to check your personal messages. Is that correct, and would Ttt mean the same thing?

well, "bump" & "ttt" do mean the same thing. They both mean the poster wants to bump their thread back "to-the-top" of the forum's list of thread so it doesn't sink too far down into pages where it won't be seen....

if you want someone to check their pm's...that is just "check pm" or "pm sent"

i'm replying to this not only to clear this up but out of respect of the original poster, i am getting this thread back on topic and giving it a free bump back ttt (to-the-top).

Dash top Material with the radio holes

Jerry, what's your price going to be for the two vinyl pieces?

I've got the 65-67 style that has two pieces of vinyl stretched onto a single metal panel.

I'm not sure - so correct me if this is not right - but isn't the 68 a combination of metal over the gauges and a fiberboard over the dash flat area? Both pieces are wraped with vinyl and can be installed independent from the other.

Thank's for getting this done.
Bob

Hi Bob,

I wish I could answer about the combination dash on a '68 but I'm only familiar with the '65-67 which is all metal. The metal dash is definitely two pieces but I don't know if they are welded together or can be easily separated. My dash is at the upholsterer's currently so I can't get a look at it.

My cost for the two blanks is around $65. That's a bit stiff for vinyl I think, but it's a special type with a very stretchable backing which allows it to be bent around the gauge surround without puckering. My upholsterer tells me a standard vinyl won't work and that the originals were made with a vacuum form. I'll have to charge $80 for the speaker holes and hope I sell all 10 sets in order to break even. I'm not trying to make any profit on this, just cover my costs.

Regards,
Jerry

Bluesky,

Many thanks for the explanation of "TTT" and "PM". It finally makes sense.

Cheers,
Jerry
