Anybody deal with this guy?
Anyone have any dealings with Dave Cardone? I bought a mirror from him on January 8,2008, paid for it and never received it. He was selling it for a buddy of his. I e-mailed him a couple of times in January, Feb. and now March. He apologized for not sending and was going to get it right out to me after March 17. Still haven't seen my part. E-mailed him twice since then, no reply. He strikes me as a rather irresponsible individual. Anyone else on the forum have problems with him? He's supposedly a law student....well that figures...

Thanks to Steve for emailing me the link to this note of Bob's.
Bob, thanks for neglecting to tell the whole story. Board members: I offered to hook up two people over at $25 used flag mirror. That twenty five bucks INCLUDED THE SHIPPING TO BOB. My friend (with the used $25 mirror) moves like molasses. I told Bob this months ago. Bob said "ok, whenever." I have indeed been busy and incommunicado. Well, I told Bob some weeks ago that I'd be happy to send him his twenty five bucks back if he was tired of waiting. He said, "no, I need the part not the mirror." I said, okay, I'll try to get moving. Anyway, no good deed goes unpunished. I returned Bob's money via paypal ten minutes ago. I added a few bucks to cover his paypal fees. So, I'm the jerk out two whole dollars for trying to help out. Glad someone saw this, didn't want you guys to think some sort of scam was going on. Jeezus what a world. Peace.

I hope/trust my reputation on this board since 1999 speaks for itself.
I do apologize for being slow to respond. I'm not a law student. I graduated in 2003. I worked as a Supreme Court law clerk for two years and I've been in private practice since. I'm one of those guys with other things beyond Porsches going on. Not that that's an excuse, it's just the truth.

All:
After I publicly apologized, returned Bob's money plus the paypal fees, offered to send him the mirror for free the next time I actually see my pal, and requested that he delete this post, here is how Bob responded: Dave, I could care less about the $25.00, thats not what this is about. You deserved to get flamed. You need to kick your lazy buddy in the ass, he's as irresponsible as you. I e-mailed you 3 times after you offered me the cash back, and I was emphatic about sending the part, not the cash. You didn't even have the common curtesy to respond. Don't care how busy you are, an e-mail just takes seconds. I think I have been more than fair with you, since January 8th until present. I even warned you about getting a negative response on this board. Your buddy made you look like a fool, not me. Please don't bother to send the mirror "free" either. That probably wouldn't arrive until the second coming of Christ....Hopefully others on the board will take heed, and won't deal with you either.. We all should heed Bob's warnings, lest we learn lessons from him. Thanks Bob! You are a new Official Board Parent. We'll get you a bumper sticker for your minivan.

Sounds to me like Bob is in the right, not you. If you can't make good on your promises then don't make them. Pushing 3 months and you're going to be a smart ass about his reply?

You miss the point. I agree with you. Indeed, I have apologized to Bob; I never said Bob was wrong. I simply dislike his aspersions and word choice and patronizing tone.
Let's not forget that the whole thing started with my willingness to try to get him a part for his almost gratis. My pal has huge pile of parts that he'll never, ever use. He has no idea what a computer is, and I was simply trying to help. Never again. It is true, also, that I've been slow to respond. Clearly, this is my fault. I apologize again. I am far removed from the hobby these days and I haven't seen any of my toy cars in months.

response....
Dave, get YOUR facts straight...you even misquoted me. I said " I need the mirror not the money". This has been going on since January 8th, when I paid you via paypal. I e-mailed you three times after you said you would personally take care of the matter. No response ( that irresponsibity thing again). Then you said you would pick it up from Jeff after March 17 and mail it along.... Nothing.... I told you in prior e-mails you might get a negative response from me and I kept my word. Anyone whom I've dealt with on this board over the last two years has been fair and great to work with and my dealings have been fair as well. You should keep that in mind when negotiating in good faith with people who expect to receive goods and services paid for . Isn't that what they teach you in law school?

Seriously guys, c'mon. $25 is hardly worth all this aggravation. That's like one good margarita.
Bob, once again, I'm sorry for the delayed responses. Not sure how many times I can say that. Please excuse my jests above - I'm really just kidding around. It's hard to get across that this is all kinda funny after all. Bob's lesson: there's nothing free in life, and try to polish up the manners a bit. Thanks again for taking the time to teach all of us kids a lesson from your book. Geez, I feel like I'm back at Catholic grade school, although the nuns rarely brought the name of the deity in vain (especially just days after Easter!) For the sake of the board, I'm not going to continue this dialog. I don't have time anyway. If anyone needs a free flag mirror let me know. Hahaha. Goodnight all.

dave,
I don't mean to make the fire bigger, but maybe you don't feel the frustration Bob's feeling because you don't like to put yourself in other's shoes. I think what makes him feel frustrated is not the $25 bucks, but it's the the part he needs and 3 months.

For what it's worth, I have dealt with Dave before and there wasn't any problem.
As I see it, Dave's only mistake was putting himself in the middle of a deal for a friend who he was trying to help out. Based upon the story I read, here, it sounds like the friend was responsible for the delay - not Dave. And Dave got blamed. Morale to the story is not; Don't do business with Dave. Rather it's don't get involved in selling a part for a friend (even a $25 one) unless you have a key to his garage - and he lives in the same state.... ![]() As for the buyer, go buy the same mirror on EBay for 4 times more than what you paid here and be happy he refunded your money. Sometimes getting a great deal on something means putting up with some hassles - like waiting an extra month or two. Dave sent your money back which is way more than any rip off artist would have done. If you hang around the Porsche used parts boards long enough, the law of averages will eventually prevail, and you will eventually be boned for a lot more money than this. Take a look at some of the threads of people who have REALLY been ripped off, and then appreciate the fact that you are not one of them. |

lets move on
All;
Appreciate all your responses, including Dave's. This issue is over as far as I am concerned. Dave apologized, sent my money back, all is good. I didn't want this whole thing to get carried away, but I think you can appreciate my frustration. Blau11, I understand what you are saying. I haven't even mentioned the few times I have been ripped off on evil-bay for some large dollars, thats another story for another time. Peace to all...Bob |

as I sat quietly eating my club sandwich at a diner yesterday, a guy two chairs away from me was boisterously loud,
saying " darn lawyers...they are ALL a**holes" he kept hankering on about that...finally I got up and walk to his table and said to him " excuse me, but I take EXTREME offense at your statements" as I towered him, his demeaner soften and he was apologetic saying he didnt know I was a lawyer. and I replied strongly... "I'm not a lawyer ..I'm an A**hole"
