FS: '95 993 3.6 engine with conversion parts to install in a SC/Carrera/Longhood

Hey there folks,

I'm making a few changes to my automotive lineup. I've decided I've come to a good stopping point with modifying my '77 911. I also recently purchased an E36 M3 to enjoy, so my 1995 993 3.6 engine is officially for sale. This is a complete 993 engine package includes all parts necessary to install into a 911 with 915 transmission and have working heat!

The lowered price is $10.5k firm for the complete package with all conversion parts listed in this ad. Or $8500 firm for just the engine including dme, harness, coils, ignitor, and stock crank pulley most 993 engine tins, carrier/crossmember, clutch, and flywheel. Ideally the buyer will want the complete package and will be able to pick up the engine at my workshop.

The engine is located near Richmond, VA. The buyer is responsible for shipping - there is a Forward Air terminal at the Richmond airport and for a reasonable crating/padelivery fee I'd be willing to drop the engine off there secured to a pallet. Keep in mind there's a second pallet worth of conversion parts (although these could be shipped UPS)! If the buyer wants to pick up the engine that's fine (and preferred). I've got a lift which will allow us to easily load the engine in the back of a pickup, SUV, trailer, etc.

(most recent pic)

Here are the details of the engine:

1995 3.6L 993 engine with around 45,000 total miles. The engine was completely rebuilt a few thousand miles ago due to a defective engine wiring harness ('95 Porsche recall) causing a stuck open fuel injector which caused a hydrolocked cylinder which bent a connecting rod. The damage was limited to the connecting rod. Rebuild paperwork included with engine. This engine is in very good condition. Nice, dry, and tight. No oil leaks. Minimal oil weepage from #8 bearing and RMS. Engine is complete with DME, DME harness, ignitor, coils, fuel line, etc.

This is a '95 non-vram engine. The '95 engines are lighter than the vram engines due to the plastic intake and also a little shorter in overall height which makes them easier to install in early cars.

The rebuild consisted of:

- OEM Porsche 993 rebuild kit.
- OEM 993 piston ring set.
- Machine work (deglaze cylinders, valve job, R-R exhaust guides, reface, rebuild con rods, balance rods) performed by Ollies in CA.
- Upgraded engine harness installed per Porsche recall campaign.
- Rebuilt fuel injectors by Mellon.
- The owner at the time was the person who performed the overall rebuild. He's a long time Pelican member who has rebuilt a few 911 engines. I can put the potential buyer in touch with the builder if you'd like to discuss the engine with him.

Excellent leakdown and compression numbers. The tests were completed on a cold engine a week before being removed out of the car last fall.

#6 195 PSI 3% Leakage
#5 200 PSI 3% Leakage
#4 200 PSI 3% Leakage
#3 205 PSI 2% Leakage
#2 210 PSI 3% Leakage
#1 205 PSI 3% Leakage

Here are the details of the conversion parts:

In the past 6 months I purchased over $4k of conversion parts for this engine. Everything needed to bolt this engine into a 911 with 915 trans and have working heat. All the parts listed below are new, waiting to be installed, with the exception of the clutch, flywheel, and K&N filter which have few thousand miles on them.

Patrick Motorsports conversion parts: backdated metal powdercoated engine tins, 3.6 conversion harness, throttle cable, heat duct outlets alternator cover, single pulley conversion kit (includes crankshaft single pulley), cam block off plate, 3.2 Carrera reinforced engine crossbar, 3.2 Carrera engine carrier, oil lines, conversion flywheel, clutch.

Elephant Racing 2nd Carrera oil cooler kit with lines for second Carrera cooler in drivers side fender. Your choice of a 28 row brass cooler or slightly dented Carrera cooler (both coolers are fine and were being used with known good engines). Coolers not shown in pics.

Steve Wong 93 octane / lightweight flywheel DME chip.

Dynomax 17725 muffler and 2.5" piping and bends, O2 bung and plug, 993 HE exhaust flanges, silicone heat duct adapters, scat heat duct tubing.

Tune up parts – new distirbutor caps, rotors, spark plugs, spark plug wires, reference sensor, air filter, oil filters.

Misc parts – K&N filter, fuel filter with proper fittings, rear electrical console with fuel filter mount.

Please post here or send me a PM if you're interested. Thanks!

Mileage info:

I asked the PO (Fizzbiz) about the mileage. He said it was a guesstimate and was on the high side. If you look at the builders (silver911rdb) ad it's 30k + 10K miles. I know Fizzbiz didn't put 10k miles on it. I recall Fizzbiz saying he did 3 DE events (plus a lap of a 4th event) with the 3.6 engine. That's it. I'm guesstimating the mileage as well based on what I know. Also note the dates between the 2 ads in the links above.

The faulty wiring issue ('95 recall) and rebuild was done before Fizzbiz bought the engine. Fizzbiz bought silver911rdb's complete '74 911. Fizzbiz had his mechanic install the 3.6 engine and 915 trans from the '74 in his SC. Drove the SC on the track a few times, then wrecked it. silver911rdb experienced the wiring issue and he did the rebuild.

Scott,

Given the completeness of the "kit" you've assembled, any idea of how many manhours a competent mechanic would charge for the swapout? Are there any additional necessary items required?

I've got an 82 91 SC with 133K. While it still runs fine, I'm starting to consider my options for eventual engine rebuild/replacement.

I think pretty much everything needed to install is there. I can't think of anything else that's needed.

I'm not sure how many hours a competent mechanic would charge for. A big part of it depends if they've ever installed a 3.6 transplant (or even a 3.2 transplant). For me I had been trying to schedule a weekend for the install, it just hasn't happened. I'd say for a stock SC:

- a couple hours to install the tune up parts and engine tins
- however long to remove the 3.0 engine + separate engine from trans
- notch trans bellhousing for reference sensor
- an hour to install the DME harness into the chassis
- however long to install the 2nd Carrera cooler and lines
- attach 3.6 engine to trans
- bolt engine/trans back into car
- reinstall fuel lines and connect wiring to engine
- start engine, verify it's running
- weld up exhaust system

Feel free to PM me your phone number and we can chat about it if you'd like. A lot of a 3.6 transplant is similar to doing a 3.2 transplant...with some additional steps (additional oil cooling, weld up exhaust, etc.).

You noted that you've lowered your price. Can you post that new price tag?

The lowered price is in the first post. The lowered price for the whole package is $10500. I was originally asking $12k. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Local pickup preferred.

$10500 is my bottom dollar number. If I don't get that then I'll make time to install it in my car (darn!) and eventually sell the euro spec 3.2 that's currently installed.
