2.2T engine complete $1500

This engine came installed in my 1971 VW bus. It was a CARB approved swap from the 70s. It was diy rebuilt by the previous owner, who added the carrera chain tensioners, but then it sat for an unknown time. I put a new gasket kit on the Zeniths, changed the oil, adjusted the valves, and got it started. I drove it for a few weeks, then back and forth to LA. After that it wouldn't start again. It didn't make any bad noises, turns freely by hand, but didn't seem to have any compression. Perhaps the rings gave out after sitting for so long? I need to get the carbs out for pictures, they were just removed to ease removal from the bus. I have since swapped a 2.4 into the bus, which loves having more torque
