Wanted: Matching number engine
I recently received the COA on a current project; a 1970 914/6. The engine is not matching, and we (Makellos) are hoping to find the matching number engine.
Some wild, unimaginable things happen with older cars: Assuming it has survived, I would not be surprised if our matching engine ended up in a 911 or 912, and therefore I am searching here as well. It may also explain an underwhelming 911 to the untrained eye. The matching engine number is 6405733. Our current engine number is 6405502. Over at Makellos Classics, we offer full service and restoration of air-cooled Porsche cars. We would certainly be willing to work out a direct purchase of the engine in question, or an exchange of services and other parts. Our current engine is not for sale, but may be offered to the owner of the matching car. We are also interested in a potential purchase of the matching car to the engine we have. I check PMs/replies and emails regularly throughout the week. Email: avargas@makellosclassics.com Feel free to contact our manager directly: Matt 858-342-1165. ![]() ![]() |

Engine
You do know those coa are not always accurate and with an engine number that close I'd bet u have the original engine in the car. I'm just sayin...

vintagecarlover, Yes I'm reaching out to Porsche to verify details as there are often errors and missed details, but given how we acquired the car it is much more likely the engine is not a match. The car came in pieces and we were told by the seller himself that the engine was not matching. Granted, the seller assumed so.

In my table of known engines in the 55xx range are in chassis in the 2300 to low 2400 range. Chassis 2624 (my old car) has engine 5738. It's most likely that 5733 is correct for your chassis, and since that's what the COA says, that's what you should be looking for. We'll be on the lookout.
cheers, dug
