FS: 75 Carrera 915/06 Transmission
I am selling the transmission out of my 75 Carrera. The transmission is still in the car and drives very well, in fact it is the best shifting 915 I have ever driven. but I am upgrading the powerplant and have purchased a 930 transmission to compensate. The serial number on this transmission is 915/06 7346871 which would be correct for a 74/75 Carrera. I've done some research on the serial number and it looks like the second digit being a 3 is specific to the 74/75 carrera, or its "optional ratios" for non Carreras of those two years. The only flaw with this transmission is a chip out of the bellhousing where the axle came loose (see pic). This doesn't effect the functionality in anyway, but this probably isn't ideal for someone looking to build a concourse Carrera.
$3k and I can ship to the continental US for an additional $150. Update 5/16/16: The transmission is now out of the car and ready to roll. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Great deal. How many miles are on it? Do you know when or if it has ever been rebuilt and the extent of the rebuild and how many miles ago?

What are the ' special ' gears. I always had the impression that for the USA version, its simply a Carrera destination.

I believe its original to the car in which case it would have about 118k miles on it. I have driven rebuilt 915's before and I have to say this is the best driving 915 I have ever experienced. I have to think that it has been rebuilt somewhat recently, although I have no proof. I emailed the previous owner last week to see if he had an records or knowledge of a rebuilt, but I didn't hear back so I priced it to account for that lack of information.

I just dug up the info again, it looks like I used the incorrect term. From what I found the "3" indicates "Optional Ratios" not special gears like I originally mentioned.

Just a note:
The 3rd digit designates the year...which means your tranny is a 74, and therefore a 7:31 R&P. In 75, the R&Ps were changed to 8:31. |

Exactly. I just did some further research and found the following posted by Peter Zimmerman:
"The 915/06 transmission was used in the '74 911, 911S and Carrera, and the 1975 Carrera. It's a 5-speed with the following ratios: 1 - 11:35 2 - 18:33 3 - 23:29 4 - 27:25 5 - 29:21 ...and was fitted with the 7:31 ring & pinion." The Second digit being a 3 differentiates it from being a regular 911 trans. As far as the year, I have send Peter a message to clarify, but I believe the 75 Carrera's still had the 74 trans. I'll update this once I get confirmation. The VIN of my Carrera is 9115400108 so it was a pretty early build. |
