My 1969 912 has a defective choke and I would like to replace it...I am calling it a "CHOKE" part...but it is not mentioned in the owner manual...it's failure is causing my carb's to be out of sync...smells of oil in the garage after a run...what should I do??? Thank you...I love this little car...I don't like to see it suffer this way...

The 912 does not have a "choke". The oil smell after driving is probably oil that has leaked from the engine onto the exhaust after it gets hot enough to flow.

Thank you, Jeff...
My Psudo Mechanic called it a CHOKE...he was just guessing...what is that part they say is defective? it is connected to the carb's by a metal line...it's about the size of a large silver dollar... Thank you, Jim |

Do you have a picture? Sounds like a fuel line??? Could it be the vacumn retard line from the distributor?

read this thread. i think it is fused too. small black box next to the voltage regulator on the left. most have been removed by now. if it's not functioning, don't throw it away. somebody will still want it(including yourself someday)...and i don't see how it would affect the sync of the carbs.
