Ideal Tyre Size 15*5.5J Fuchs

Hello,

can someone tell me what the ideal tyre size is for a 15*5.5 Fuchs wheel?

Thanks!

195X65X15 keeps you around the original tire size, keeping the speedometer close to correct.

I suggest 195/65x15. It is not a real low profile but it is as close as you can get to the stock diameter, thus keeping your gear ratios unchanged and your speedo accurate. It is also commonly available. You probably can use 205/60 as well but it is a shorter tire and may rub on full lock in front.

edit:Tony is quicker than me!

Some good choices in tires at the 195X65X15 size.

Off topic, but looking at Tony's '68 912 takes me back to the '68 911L SWT I restored back in the early 90's. Not sure if tires are 195's or 165's. Sold it in '97. Wish I hadn't!

Thanks!

Just got the car and temporarily placed the 16' Fuchs of my 3.2 on it.

Don't have to mention they're too wide

I run the exact same tire and size as 912 Coupe.
The tire is a Yokohama EVS 195/60/15 with Fuchs 15x6 deep 6's.

I love the tire and the lower sidewall looks good to me. The tire looks aggressive on a lowered car.

Here is a picture of my '68.

You didn't say the year of your car. This could make a difference in the size of the tire. The 65-67 may not be able to run a larger tire. Just be sure to test the size first. I have a 66 that can not run anything bigger than a 185/65/15 or it will rub against the front inter wall of the fender. It is also only about 4mm from rubbing on the struts. In the rear it is only about 5mm from the tire and the inter lip of the fender. To get more room you can roll the inter lip flat of both the front and rear fenders. It will also depend on the profile of the tire some tires are flat sided and others will be more rounded. The lower the height of the tire will also make a difference.

The 68 even though it is still a SWB flat side. It came with a spacer for the rims and may be able to run a larger tire.

The 69 and 912E's have a longer wheel base and also have flairs to accommodate larger tires. Though a lot of folks do get away with a larger tire. My car can not.

Personally I want a little tire past the rim in case I miss judge the crub while parking. Saves the rim.

You have many options here, not only brand but size. If you all recall Porsche started using different size fr vs rr when the power increased. As an example, 76 930 had 185/70VR15 fr and 215/60VR15 rr. Both tires had the approx same dia of 25.5". While the 185/70 tire is very hard to find, the 195/65 is very close. Many folks are not concerned with ability to rotate tires, so this is a factor to consider.
Hope this helps, Bill

In the photo below:

The car on the left is the same one in post #7 above - 1969 with 15x5.5 wheels 195/60/15 tires.

The car on the right - 1968 with 15x6 deep wheels 185/65/15 tires.
