tire size?
What size tire came on 914 fuches originally? I have 155sr15s on my steel wheels. I was thinking about getting 165sr15s. I'm not autocrossing or anything besides driving it for fun. The cheaper the better as long as its still correct. I'm a college student so funds are very limited.

165r15 is one of the original sizes. I think that, by the time the Fuchs alloys were offered, 165s were the only tire offered. 155s were the "standard" tire, with 165s being optional, but I think that by 1973 the 165s were the only tire size offered.
I personally would consider 196/65-15, as there are a lot of good fun tires available in that size. --DD

Has anyone had first hand experiences with the Kumho ECSTA KH11 or Sumitomo HTR 200?
I've been thinking about a set for myself. |

I've got the Sumitomo HTR 200 in the 195/65 15 size. I haven't done any "spirited" driving on them yet, in fact I only have probably 400 miles on them at most. For driving around town and on the highway I don't have any complaints. They seem fairly quiet, look to be good quality and have an attractive tread pattern.
The sidewall seems pretty thin to me. Now that my suspension is tighter, all I feel is the wiggle in the sidewall. Of course that is probably due to the 65 series I purchased. I probably should have gone with the 60's..but the price was right, so I'm not out all that much. |

In 1988, C&D tested a 914 with BF Goodrich 185/70 Euro T/As and found that it pulled 0.84g on their skid-pad http://persweb.direct.ca/aschwenk/914page13.htm .

Has anyone tried the kumho ecsta hp4 716? I'm looking at the 195/60-15 size. They are $37 ea at the tire rack. Keep in mind I'm not auto crossing or doing anything but just driving with the top off for a little fun on those warm sunny days as well as it being my second car. I'm a full time college student so money is very tight.

I have the sumitomo htr z in 195/50/15, pretty killer. Very sticky and a nice stiff sidewall. 50 bucks at tirerack. The short profile does mess with your gearing and speedo though, but I don't mind...
