Installing a radio antenna on a 914

I have a 1974 VW/Porsche 914-4, 1.8 liter, that has a very nice custom radio installed in it but that lacks a radio antenna. There is a hole cut in the left cowl top where an antenna once lived but it is no longer there.

My challenge is to hook up a standard antenna to the radio in the rear of the instrument panel center WITHOUT removing all the 'stuff' that seems to lie in front of it. Is this even possible? Or does one have to remove the heater collection box and hoses to even get to the the bloody radio's rear?

Am I in for a laborious undertaking, or is there a simple shortcut around all that intermediary 'stuff' that seems to block access to the radio's rear (radio antenna input plug)?

Ironically, I NEVER listen to music in any of my cars, being one of those arcane gearheads who instead would rather listen to the engine sounds so as to detect gremlins before they start to do something bad to the engine! I am merely trying to restore the radio to operating condition (with antenna) as OEM specifies.

Thanks in advance for any advice from wiser, more experienced 914 owners.

Garage
Use "fish tape" or some wire to find the pathway for the antenna wire. Then attach that to your fish tape and fish it through. Little or no disassembly of stuff needed.

easy to do there is already a factory hole into the car behind the radio and there is a template for precise location of the antenna mast hole at the rear of the driver's fender

Hi
Do not remove the heater collection box.
The radio is inside the cabin, (on the cabin side of the firewall.)
Get inside the cabin and look up at the bottom face of the radio.
(Use a mirror if necessary.)
Best regards
