73 2.0 or 72 1.7 ?????

Problems problems. I have a 1973 2.0 in pretty good shape that drives real zippy and does all I ask it to do. But now a friend has given me a 1972 1.7 that is in great shape and runs like a top.

I have a one car garage. I also have a Dodge truck, a utility trailer, Saab 900, and a Buick Something or other. That is SIX vehicles. I cannot keep all of these cars. It is a bit ridiculous. Something must go. The truck cannot go. Obviously one of the 914's cannot go. I can't say that I'll take any advice into consideration, but what do you all think????

If you had to choose between good condition 914's, would you choose a 72 2.0 that has repaired collision damage or a 98% mint 72 1.7 that previously has been a concourse car?

I need a beer.

If it were me I would take the 2.0 out of the 73 and all the other goodies that came with the appearence group and put that in the 72. Then you have a good body and engine. Put the 1.7 in the 73 and sell it. That's just me though.

Thumbs up 22.0 or 1.7

Potter:
I agree with 73/2.0 914, if engines are equal in condition . Do commpression check and leak down test on both. That should give you a good idea as to the condition of the top end of each. Are they both F.I.? Maybe you can swap out good for better,on stuff that's interchangeable. THe big thing ( as you know) is the rust in the body issue. Enviable position to be in! my 2 cents Dave

mix and match and sell the leftover car... or just get rid of the buick...

or you can get one of the garage lift kits to "stack" cars... 2 914s should fit under a 9ft roof

Send your excess cars to Ron - He needs more 914's

James

PS - I'd keep them both and find a neighbor to "house" the extra one.

Got to be either the Sabb or the Buick to go. Or find a good parking place. You gotta keep one of them cuz you got the "babus"
right Kevin
I'm with Jeff... the concourse all the way. AX the 73 & save the good one for Sunday

Normally I'd say the 2.0 since the '73 2.0 is widely considered to be _the_ 914 to have (aside from the sixes). But since the 1.7 was a concourse car, it's definitely worth trying to keep, and it probably shouldn't be messed with. Honestly, I would try to get rid of either the Saab or the Buick. If I couldn't do that, I'd try to find a self-storage place to keep one of the 914's.

Cool

I gotta say. i'd really like to be in that position,,,, i'd get rid of the saab or buick, depending on which i could get more money for... second, depending on which engine/tranny was in better condition out of the 914s...i would take out the better of the two and mix and match body parts to make a lighter car on the better chassis… I did this and got some great results. not to mention that i like the sideshifter a bit more, then the earlier tail. you can always get your money out of a 914(given you have a good chassis). but if they are in tha tgood a condition.. and you dont have the time or patience....get a porta-garage!
