Wayne I Hate You
Why, why, oh why did you do this, and make me go look at what the whine tasters had to say?
I am so all over the next 911 I see, waving, and flipping the finger of friendship! heh M |
I read all of those posts on the 911 board and didn't see much to get revved up about. Seems like some folks are a bit thin-skinned about the 'poor relations' thing.

Did I miss something??

911 (exclusive) owners live in a bottle.

No, Wayne trolled the malcontent 911 owners with his "Carrera 914", then they started up with the '911 hates 914' remarks, like 'crappy shifting go-kart'.. I just get caught up in it. Funny thing is, I was planning pretty much the same car, so now I know where to parade it when it's done. :)
When 911 guys attack 914s, it just really gets my goat, I will not stand for goat getting... unless you get me one too. M |
aaaaa, mine is a crappy shifting go kart...
|
Yeah - no one messes with Miles goat, but Miles....

I abstain from all contact with anything that has cloven hooves, I do like a nice monkey though, they are affectionate!

What about horses? They don't have cloven hooves?

Where is this thread about 911 owners down on 914's? Hell, there's a bunch that own both, they know which one to take to the track. Find my thread on the Boxster board about "Boxster Bashing." It's like 3 pages long and right on this topic. Screw a bunck of constipated 911 owners who can't resist proping themselves up by dissing mid engine cars. I sure as hell can't get that way, I own one of each.
NOW, if I were to combine the best attributes of the 3, I would end up with a 914 with a 3.2 and killer A/C, 17" wheels and big reds. It would weigh 2400# instead of 3400# and go like stink. Take that and shove it up your tail pipe, Mr. 911 only. (Wait, I haven't even read the stinkin' thread, where'd you say it was?) :D |

I read the thread, I didn't see much 914 bashing. There were a couple of posters who dissed the 914 but for the most part they were reasonable and on the mark. The only post i didn't care for much was the one where the poster suggested that Wayme should put "VOLKSWAGON" on the side instead of Carrera. I just shrugged that one off as someone who doesn't know and understand the car like we do or maybe he was just making a joke and I didn't realize it.
I don't see the crappy shifting go-kart reference as derogitory at all, rather I see it as a very accurate description. My SC doesn't shift that much better though, maybe a little but neither are as accurate as a modern japanese car when it comes to shifting. My first 914 was a 1971 1.7 liter tail shifter. I bought it with 60,000 original miles when it was 8 years old. Sloppy was a good description of the linkage. I completely rebuilt the linkage on the next 914 I owned and it shifted better (side shifter) but still not precise. The V8 914 was the best shifting of the three but maybe I was just more used to them at that point and I didn't use 1st gear so that took some of the quirkiness out of the picture. Please don't take this wrong, but I've driven many 914s, none of them even came close to shifting as good as a Honda. There, I said it. Go ahead and throw rocks. No offence but that's my opinion. I do like the handling of a 914 better than the hondas :) |
I agree with the last post there, and why is it such a bad thing to be a VW? Personally I don't want anyone knowin what kinda car mine is so all of the badges and stuff are all shaved.

:)
914 shifters rock if you get it just the way it was on that sunny day when Hans wiped the first spilled fuel off of the PS fender.. I have owned some of both, the 911 has MORE quirks than a 914, the shifter as you said being an easy target. 914s have a REAL shift pattern, at least, not to mention a 911 is not the best handling car in the world, and the 914 can be. Let me have an amen! Oh, and BTW, 90% of people think my black car is a Fiat. M |
I'm a 911 owner... got 2 old ones. Hey, my first Porsche was a 76 914. It was great fun, just not really fast. I drove a friend's modified 914-6 at a local SCCA auto-x a couple of weeks back. When the smoke had cleared, I had steered his car to 2nd fast time of the day (on both days) a couple of tenths back. Over 100 people each day. Not bragging... I was just way impressed about the handling and power delivery of his car... I don't remember my 76 being quite as fast. I definitely want to park a couple of 914's in my garage next to the 911's. One stock 914-6, and another really modified autocrosser. I don't have much issue about the VW roots. Heck, I had 3 of them (beetles) in highschool and college. I think 914's are like Bobby Knight... you either love 'em or you hate 'em... not much in between. I really liked the removable top that stores in the rear trunk and the midengine layout.
Anyway, here's one 911 owner that likes them 914's.:D |
i'd wave and beep to 914 owners, its just i have NEVER seen one 914 on the road in my life. the only one i've seen was my neighbors old rustbucket that he presumably sold. i'm not even sure if it ran. why don't i see any 914s?

You have to look under SUVs.
